Quote Mr Brady said the NRL had a large following in the UK - its biggest TV market outside of Australia - and felt fans' frustration.
"I don't have figures but it gets a good audience, there's no doubt about that.
"They'll be frustrated, it's unfortunate for them."
Setanta also had rights to regular NRL season matches. Mr Brady would not speculate on whether those rights would be re-sold to another UK broadcaster.
"That's going to take a little time to work out."'"
[iIF[/i I'm right in thinking that the NRL will have to pay back Setanta money for the games it didn't broadcast in the contract, then the NRL will lose money.
If the quote above me is right from Mr Brady and we are the biggest TV market outside Australia (hard for it not to be), it will only be a matter of time IMO before we get the NRL back on UK television screens again.
Maybe theres a possibility of missing out the rest of this season (I hope not) but I can't see us not having the NRL for the beginning of 2010 at latest.

| Probably more likely that Setanta didn't pay up front for the rights to broadcast NRL. If the NRL worded the contract correctly the right should return to them (as per Premier League and Scottish League), it wasn't them that defaulted on the contract.

| If i was the NRL and sky, i would have used today's free stream and perhaps the next round or two to see the interest in the sport and use that to sell the rights to espn or whoever. I suspect sky (who have the rights by default) will be impressed by the response and it will be back on sky within a month.

| The Aussie is still streaming all NRL on a certain website. Watch it there.
As for where the rights will go-hopefully to a terrestrial channel. I suspect Sky will get it the rights however.

What?
The company has ceased trading, the NRL are in the great position of now having the original money (if it was paid) and bieng able to re-sell their product.
There'll be no paying anyone anything back as the company no longer exists!

| We should all email Channel four and Five (especially five) to show them there is a big audience for the games and even putting them in the graveyard shift we will watch/record them.
Least get some interest elsewhere.

So Setanta's administrators wont be demanding money back if the company already paid the NRL either for the remainder of this year or in full when the contract was signed?
We know they fell behind on their Premier League payments but that contract was worth God-knows-how-many millions. I cant see NRL in the UK being similar amounts to the Premier League.

They seem obsessed with getting American sports in-so why not an Aussie one.

Five is cutting back on it's American sports, so I doubt they'd be bothered....C4, ditto.
It's Sky as the obvious front runners, ESPN as a long shot I guess.

Well its a bit more complicated than that. Firstly sky own the rights thanks to fox's deal i oz, they sold or rented them on to setanta. Sky could therefore show the NRL games from now on. On the pay back issue, it depends if setanta paid up front, which is doubtful as they didnt with the football, and if they did, the administrators could indeed ask for a partial refund, but that all depends on the wording of the contract. Basically sky as ever hold all the cards.

| What's the score with Setanta Ireland? I've rarely watched before today but when flicking through have noticed that its often been unscrambled. Do they show NRL? They are showing the Footy Show on Friday morning but I can't see any games listed for the weekend.

| Lets hope a decent channel that won't go bust and ruin our NRL viewing gets the rights. Sky may as well get them, another quality rugby league program would surley pull some of those big ratings super league gets.

Setanta GB is up the spout. Ireland and the US are still going, but are looking to be sold on.
