Lockyer came over to England in 2007, to do a bit of tv work for the BBC at the Challenge Cup Final. He stated during the live transmission, that playing in Super League was something that interested him, and he'd love the opportunoty to play at Wembley in the Challenge Cup Final.

Since then, various rumours have circulated that he was going to play for Wigan/Leeds/HKR in 2009/2010/when Wayne Bennett leaves the Broncos etc etc.

This week further tabloid gossip has surfaced suggesting he'll come to England in 2010.

Are there any rumours regarding Lockyer's future circulating in Oz? Better still are there any factual reports regarding his future plans?

He is likely to play one more season for the Broncos and then retire.

What he does from there, who knows.


You have to be careful with player comments when they head over to England. Lockyer can't honestly say "Mate, play in this comp, do you know who I am?" can he?

The Broncos have so many good youngsters that have played fullback even this year, fullback wont be a problem.

As for Lockyer, he really is showing the signs of age IMO. He's lost a lot of the danger he used to have with the ball - his pace and confidence in running have been way down this year. Maybe he'll come back stronger next year, but he hasn't had a proper off-season for years now and the extra workoload at stand off has also taken the edge off.

I really hope he just plays out his career with the Broncos and retires as a one-club player. If he went to England in another year or so I suspect he'd look a very pale shadow of his former self and I'd be sad if he goes over just for a last few quid.

I forgot Kemp had gone back to the Broncos, he had a tough time at the Warriors but then again the Warriors had a tough season, Cleary changed the backs nearly every week. Hopefully he finds the form he had at the Broncos in 08.

I hope they have more success replacing him than they had replacing their wingers who cleared off to RU!

The two wingers they have now are great!


The Broncos problem wasn't the fact they had no one to replace Tuqiri or Sailor. It was their lack of trust in their youngsters and using players out of position to try and get by rather than developing wingers that hurt them.

Play out his career with the Broncos, then straight onto the coaching staff.

Personally I think Lockyer will play on for Broncos until he feels he is not good enough to continue in the NRL then,like a number of Aussies (Menzies) he will go make a few quid in the easier competition SL,for a couple of seasons just to give the poms some idea of what they have missed over the last decade or more.
