Quote ="shinymcshine"I'd say the GMB are doing their remit of looking after the best interest of their members. Not all RL players are on big wages, and the career span is relatively short.'"
The career span should never ever come into it, some players have 20 years in the game earning well above average earnings, even if a players career is short that doesn't stop that person from having a career afterwards, don't many clubs help players get further education whilst employed in any case?
I was in a decently paid job, I had to give it up due to health reasons, I never had the option to simply take a pay cut and not go to work for xx months - though I did manage to skive off in hospital for 40 days and 15 days recuperation so that was a bonus
Why should players get more protection than others, why shouldn't a pay cut be put on the table for all, of course no-one wants to take a pay cut, but if that actually keeps them in a job then surely it would make sense for a review into salaries and see how those on higher earnings particularly could be asked to take a cut?
In fact those higher earners are the ones more likely to find a job if a club does go under, it's the lower paid/squad players that are more likely to be at threat of long term financial harm/no job.
