Definitely not erm er er erm the one with the er erm microphone, French. He absolutely ruined the commentary over his latter years. Eddie left much to be desired but at least he was lucid. I

French's talents lay on the field. It would be a great shame if he was remembered as a commentator. So, Hemmings for me though his overall achievements within the game are dwarfed by Ray's.

French was far more knowledgeable about the game, but Hemmings was a more professional commentator, and better for the image of the game IMO.

Jon Champion did a few for the BBC around the millennium.

I preferred French. He focused on the game. Hemmings knows how to shill for his employers

I think both have served the game really well during their careers and should be remembered and applauded for their work and not derived because of errors in their commentary in the latter years of their career.

Ray French has been a shocking commentator for nearly 40 years. His stuff in the 1980's with Alex Murphy was cringeworthy. When Eddie and Stevo arrived they were a breath of fresh air.

There is no comparison. I've met Ray French. He's a nice guy. He's never ever been a good commentator
