What's the flaw in the logic? Looked at from above, any ball will be touching a flat surface ONLY at a point along the midline of the ball. The "edge" won't be touching anything. Ever. It can't. There is only a single point, the lowest point, that can ever touch the surface.
If you want to make MORE of the ball touch the surface, then you have to apply pressure, and squash it. Still won't alter which point touched the floor first, though.
