| Great Britain Armed Forces Squad for World Cup Opener
Head Coach Warrant Officer Wayne Okell MBE has today named his squad that will take on the Kiwi’s in the opening fixture of the Armed Forces World Cup at the Corporal Budd VC ground, Colchester on Sunday 30th June.
His squad has an excellent blend of experience and new players, which includes Loose Forward Dale Jinks (RAF) who was named as player of the Tournament in the 2008 Defence Forces World Cup and former Leeds Rhino Prop Forward Lewis Taylor (RN) who also was an integral part of that winning team. Tim Tamani (Army) along with Martin Wood and Garry Dunn (both RAF) are the other remaining players from 2008.
Two players new to the military but not to Rugby League are former Huddersfield Giants Academy player Jamie Milburn & former Hull FC player Dominic Maloney. Both players have only recently passed out from recruit training having joined the British Army in October 2012.
Okell has gone on record to suggest that the preparation and competition for places for this World Cup will allow him to field the strongest Armed Forces team to date. He also states that the competition for places has been immense with some serious athletes missing out on selection for this opening fixture. He expects that the encounter will be without doubt a very physical affair and he strongly believes that his charges are ready in all respects to meet the challenge of the Kiwi’s head on.
