Well they have just changed to the Super League and AFL system, with the exception of the club call nonesense.
The only change I'd maybe consider for the SL playoffs would be reducing their size.

if you moved to a 5/6 team playoff in a 14 team league there would be too many teams not competing for anything. Teams that wont be in a wooden spoon battle or be in with a chance of the playoffs. At the moment clubs can aim for that 8th spot. teams such as Cas wont make the top 6 but wont finish in the bottom 3 either. however it does mean teams can just cruise through the league and win the GF like Leeds did. Maybe the best compromise would be a 12 team league 6 team playoff 23 matches freeing up space for the much talked about expanded WCC. With the possible introduction of a relegation play off as soon as it is reintroduced. Bottom 2 sides of SL against top 2 sides of championship.
