Outlaws Gunning For Revenge
EnglandAcademy international and Bradford Bulls player Tom Burgess will be the guest of honour at a charity Rugby League match at Harvey Hadden Stadium this Saturday.
Nottingham Outlaws will take on the Royal Artillery in the Heroes Trophy, a match that will raise money for the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund and ABF The Soldier's Charity.
The game is held annually and the Gunners currently hold the trophy after defeating Nottingham 27-22 last year.
The contest will also mark the return of Rugby League to Harvey Hadden Stadium and Simon Morton's first game of temporary charge of the Outlaws following the resignation of Martin Crick.
On the day, supporters are invited down to meet the team and the coaching staff before the game and have their photos taken with the players
The club will also be doing the official team photos for the 2011 season in the run up to kick-off.
At half-time Tom Burgess will be presenting various schools, including Alderman White, Trinity Catholic and BramcotePark, with medals from the inaugural Year 8 Girls Champion Schools Tournament, which was won by BramcotePark.
After the game the 19-year-old prop will hand the Heroes Trophy over to the winning captain on what is sure to be a fantastic occasion for all involved.
Tom recently turned down the chance to join twin brother George and older brother, and Great Britain star, Sam at South Sydney Rabbitohs to stay at Bradford and forge a career in the England game - a sign at how strong Rugby League is becoming in this country.
Outlaws' chairman Richard Johnson is full of enthusiasm ahead of the match-up.
He said: "Once again we are delighted to welcome the Royal Artillery Rugby League team to Nottingham for our annual charity match. Obviously we are always more than willing to help raise funds for such a worthy cause and our hearts go out to all of the injured service personnel who will hopefully benefit in some small way from the funds that we raise. The visit of the Royal Artillery is especially anticipated this year as it will be the Outlaws' first ever game at their new home, Harvey Hadden Stadium. We will be looking to attract a bumper crowd as Rugby League once again returns to this iconic venue. The match will be graced by our guest of honour Tom Burgess, who has generously taken time-out from his Super League duties at Bradford Bulls to support this charity event. It will be a highly emotional day for all concerned; not least for Tom who's father Mark coached and played for the former professional side, NottinghamCity, before tragically departing us at such a young age. We are looking forward to paying our respects to the Burgess family for all they have done to help rugby league in the East Midlands over the years It will also see Simon Morton take the reigns of the first team for the first time since Martin Crick stepped down and I know Simon will be keen to chalk up a win on his head coaching debut. Throw in the schools presentations and that it is an Open Day for the wonderful supporters of the Outlaws to come down and meet the players and it really does have all the makings to be a truly tremendous day for everyone in attendance."
All proceeds from the day will be donated to the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund and ABF The Soldier's Charity.
The Royal Artillery Charitable Fund helps all retired and serving Gunners and their dependants in need.
In the requirement to continue to support and reinforce the notion of a Gunner family the Gunner welfare charities do not just support Gunners from enlistment to death; they help from enlistment to after death because the RACF will help those dependants left behind when you die. Now that is what is called a regimental family!
ABF The Soldier's Charity gives lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much for their country, but for them, it's just doing their job.
In return, the charity provides financial assistance when they are in real need - a duty they have done for over 66 years.
The charity has seen a 30% rise over the past two years in applications from soldiers who have taken part in previous and current conflicts and currently raise £7 million a year to meet this need.
As a result of Current Operations it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years. It is the aim of The Soldiers' Charity to increase fundraising to £14 million a year by 2015 to be sure that they can help each and every soldier that needs our help.
Anyone looking to sponsor the Outlaws in any way is encouraged to come down to talk to club officials about what they can offer in 2011.
The match kicks-off at 2.30pm at Harvey Hadden Stadium but supporters are invited down from 1pm to meet the team
