Unfortunately this isn't uncommon in cases like this - people are frightened that the perpetrators will find out who they are and come after them.

Those same people should hope that they never need the help of another to identify someone who has attacked them or a loved one in that case. It's spineless.
Lets hope they get the right guy!
Its shocking that potential witnesses wont come forward.
Whatever people might call me if it was even someone I was fairly close to who did this i'd hand them in no question.
