| Back on Thread....
Wellington or Christchurch would be great, but it's a while away IMO.
To the poster who mentioned the soccer team in wellington, they didn't out-strip the Union lot, but they did get some good crowds at the business end of the season and ticket sales have been pretty good for the coming season.
Wellingtonians are keen to get behind their teams, no matter what the sport, but the cake tin (it's not an oval BTW......it's round) is a pretty soulless place unless you get 20k in it.....and the dross served up for the last few years in super 14 union have seen a massive drop in attendances (10k down on 2006 average 37%)) at that level. The Wellington Lions Union team have been pretty consistent...with gates of around 10k for the last 5 years.......
A wellington NRL side is at least 10 years away.....but if the NZRL are clever, they may well apply sooner...especially if the All Blacks Choke (again) next year in the RUWC. I have looked for information regarding ticket sales for the England game later this year, but can't see any....I would hope that it will sell out (35k) and if it does, then that would show what could be achieved if there was a team here.
I have enjoyed the amateur season here this year......it's not a bad standard and gets a few decent crowds. I have no doubt that an NRL team in wellington would average between 15,000 and 20,000 attendances, if priced cometitively and well marketed.....and many of the fans I have met at games this year agree.

| 10,300 at Adelaide this weekend. Not a bad turn out considering how neglected the game is in SA.

| I think it was the South Aus cricket trust that offered the Doggies the chance to play there.
Pity the ground was like it was, 10k in a 14k demolishion site isn't too bad when you think about it.
I'd love to see each of the mainland states with at least 1 team each, a full national code which would be the envy of all sport in Australia, we only need 2 more, Perth which will probably happen soon and then Adelaide somewhere in the future hopefully.
