Quote ="RyanWire"He's the only british winger who is really really rapid and can finish from distance. He has his flaws but can win matches.'"
And the flaws are he can LOSE you matches. Aside from the fact he often commits himself far too early (making him vulnerable to a winger stepping toward the posts or the cut-out pass) there is a Mark Calderwood aura about him (before Calderwood sorted his game out) whenever he receives a kick (high or low). Between leaping and catching like one of the greats and dropping the ball without a finger laid on him pretty much anything can happen. Like Calderwood his results are similarly spectacular either way.
After visiting countless British and Australian RL forums over the years I've found that the biggest difference between the two sets of fans relates to player weaknesses. Aussie speccies seem far more clued up when it comes to a player's game and they are rarely inclined to brush problems under the carpet because of some positive element of the player's repertoire. I get the feeling that many SL fans would dismiss hooks instead of hands if the player in question could run the 100m in under 10.7 seconds. Why this is I have no idea. But their game is better off for it.
I mean, they'd laugh their asses off if it were mentioned that Penny gets into the FIRST TEAM, let alone the rep side.
