St George Illawarra captain Mark Gasnier has signed with French rugby union club Stade Francais.
His playing future has been the subject of endless speculation over the past few months, but the representative centre is expected to announce he is leaving the Dragons at a media conference at 11:00am on Tuesday.
The Australian and New South Wales centre will be exercising an escape clause in his five-year contract to sign with French rugby union club Stade Francais, which is to be coached by former Waratahs boss Ewen McKenzie.
Gasnier was courted by the Australian Rugby Union in 2006, but the Dragons retained their superstar with a late multi-million dollar offer.
His departure is a big blow to the NRL as Gasnier was to be one of the key faces in the promotion of the League World Cup to be staged later this year.
Gasnier began looking at overseas options after a third-party deal fell through earlier in the season.
