The 'on report' system needs to go. All it does is give referees the opportunity to dodge making difficult decisions.

Yup. From what I heard on Sky (would have to play it back) the touch judge was trying to tell him how bad it was, but all he was interested in was putting it on report.

I think it's seriously unacceptable for a referee to stand 5 yards away from an incident like that and not reach for a card. The touch judge said "He's got to go." If a referee cannot or will not use his authority to protect players from that sort of assault then he needs to be removed from his position and "retrained". Disgusting abdication of his responsibility in my opinion.

I didn't think it was as bad as it looks. Briers stopped just as he was going to be tackled and was going down at the time. He will get a ban though. I thought Waterhouse did one just as bad and yet no one says anything.

The touch judge said " In my opinion he (Briers) was going down at the time"
