www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 5868877422
It shows how rugby league in its spiritual heartland, Sydney, is absolutely powering ahead as winter's premier sport.
Overall, rugby league crowds in Sydney have increased a whopping 12 per cent over the opening 10 rounds compared to the same time last season. The numbers show Sydney fans are truly passionate about their traditional clubs.
"It is a strong mix of regional clubs and Sydney's powerhouse clubs."
Average crowds across ANZ Stadium, Parramatta Stadium, CUA Stadium and Campbelltown Stadium in Sydney's western suburbs have risen 21 per cent from 16,136 in 2009 to 19,519 in 2010.

| as ive said before we have loads of growth yet left in sydney
with souths and dogs pushing memberships hard, it wont surprise me to see these clubs averaging 30,000 in a few years time, and pushing higher
at saints, now that we have broken the 10,000 barrier we are aiming for 16,000 members
in this environment adding the central coast bears will only generate more growth via lost fans in sydneys north shore and the central coast, as will perth
down the track weve got more teams in queensland, new zealand and PNG!
j.j. gillitnan would be proud

| I read that article this morning.
Sydney has taken on a different resonance since the 75,000 at the PF last year. You can see that the previous glass ceiling has been well and truly shattered.
I see us having a 50,000+ attendance at a club game in Sydney within 2-3 years at the outside.
All it really needs at the moment is a game at ANZ between maybe St George and Souths towards the back end of the season when things are hotting up (and with both teams with something to play for).

| And for the trolls no doubt hovering, it won't be a Guazzini style give away or a bloody two for one offer (London union clubs), that is for sure...

| best tickets for origin 1 - $135 down to $50 for the worst category
thieves.
$50 for a seat behind the posts at homebush is daylight robbery
if they reduced ticket prices to a resonable level theyd sell out

| It's actually a $21 saving, the point stands, everybody with any marketing sense who knows that a game isn't going to sell out trys and fills the ground with discounts or freebies. Nothing wrong with it and we do it in the NRL every weekend.
