| The thing I've noticed about Gale is when he gets close to the line, he looks as if he has no idea what he's going to do (and not in a good way) This has nothing to do with playing behind a beaten pack.
Time and time again against Leeds and Wire he chose the wrong pass or literally just flung it without looking. We'll see how he goes next few games.

So your opinion is that Gale is crap and that Olbison is half-decent? I doubt that too many DO agree with this comment. However, if they do I would invite them all round to your gaff and I will book the yellow van to take you out for the day. Mind and lick those windows clean.

| In my opinion, anyone who is a knowledgeable watcher of RL would rightly dismiss an opinion that Gale is "crap" as the opinion of someone who frankly doesn't know what they are talking about. We have seen enough of Gale in the many games he has played that he is a class act.

Exactly, he struggles with his decision making and does not seem to have to have the confidence/ability to attack the line which leaves him with very few options, let's hope this improves.

Wow is that the best you could come up with? Sense of humour fail
I've not said Gale is crap, I have said he is an average player and I feel he is overrated. Just my opinion as I've said, although it appears you don't like opinions and you feel it necessary to resort to insults, poor ones at that.
As for Olbison I think he's a good player and will only improve, he had a poor game against Leeds but so did a number of our players.

Not at all. Regular visitors on here will be more than aware that I try to encourage debate rather than stifle it and that I am totally FOR people having an opinion.
So, yeah, I do not have a problem with your right to having an opinion. I just think that your opinion is utter she-ite.
And as for insults? No, I do not have to resort to them. It is just that some people deserve them.

All Gale needs to do when he gets close to the line is pass to Kearney instead of trying to send the 2nd rower through on a crash ball and rendering the overlap irrelevant.

Piece of pi ss, GF here come the Bulls, if only they had thought of it. There are teams who you worry are going to score when they get near your line due to the amount of options & line breakers in their team. Bulls don't have that luxury.

Agree with this.
I have also been unimpressed with Gale. As he's been injured and missed pre-season, i'm prepared to let him get up to speed, but I agree that his decision making has been poor so far. We never seem like a team that will spread the play to the wings, mainly because we seem to favour the crash ball.
During the Leeds game, I was thinking we would have been better with Addy in the halves, that probably gives a reflection of how I thought Gale was playing.
As for Olbison - I actually think he's a better prospect than Whitehead. His performances have really picked up from last season. During the early SL rounds, I thought his defence was solid. He did have a mare against Leeds, but most of the team did.

I am able to take an unbiased and critical view, and I've seen very many bad/average/good/very good/exceptional halfbacks over more years than I care to remember, so I reckon I've a very sound basis for any comparisons I make. I'm not "easily impressed" at all. I just know what I'm talking about.
Gale's been out a long time. The team have learned to play with a completely different halfback combination and it is clear that they have to re-adjust to playing with Gale at 7, who offers a completely different game than say, Addy or Sammutt.
Anyway I note you say you don't think he is "crap" but "overrated". Can you tell me which ratings you are referring to, so I can check them and tell you whether I agree.

,,,.'"
I would expect though that Gale, and the attack, plays they way he and they are told to play by the coach, in any given game. Also non-fans of Gale seem to overlook that he was injured playing for England B. Or maybe that leaves them the next numpty option of saying it was only McNamara who picked him, what does he know - anyway the point being that he has been highly rated (and I am not saying rated to be top class, please note - he would have a ways to go to get anywhere near the tope echelon of halfbacks but that isn't the issue here). When we signe dhim he was London's top scorer and most would agree best player. Which mug signed this dud, then? Oh yes, the mug Mick Potter. Obviously he was as fooled as the England selectors last season. Potter was quoted as saying:
Quote "He can run the team around the park, has a great kicking game and will be a great addition to our squad."'"
I think that is an opinion that qualifies for a whole lot of respect and value it much more than yours, tbf.
Also Gale started off in the Leeds Academy, who are not noted for signing no-hopers. Then he was NL2 Young Player of the Year in 2008. Yes it was NL2, but that is rated top out of a hell of a lot of players, and at age 19. So, to sum it up, some very good judges have consistently rated Gale very highly at all levels and I think they are right to do so, and his record and performances all consistently back that up. Lastly I would remind you that Gale was one of the squad that performed so heroically for Potter in 2012, he played 19 games that season and was MotM in 4 of them.

| FA -Let me sum up the points I was attempting to make, as quoted in your last response.....
- This season I've been unimpressed with Gale
- I understand he missed pre-season, for this reason I expect him to get better
- Much of his decision making since returning from injury has been poor
- Due to him having a bad game against Leeds, I probably would have preferred Addy in the halves.
Not sure why your talking about the kids upbringing as I don't think I questioned his ability. He had a good season last year, the only disappointing thing about last year was the time he spent on the sidelines due to injury.
There have been quite a decent split of people saying his decision making has been poor, yet it seems people can't comment without being shot down.
Also, not sure what relevance quoting Mick Potter has, as this quote seems to have been made after announcing his signing for the Bulls, not even close to any of my points about his current form and decision making.

The post was aimed not only at you but other people who have been having a go at Gale, in particular the post that said he was "crap". the post doesn't "shoot down" anybody, nor did it intend to. I am just making the general point that throughout his (still young) career a lot of good judges have very highly rated Gale and that does not mean they are all right, nor that I suggest anyone else isn't entitled to their opinion, on the contrary. It seems like a reasonable POV to me.
What is mildly annoying is when I post a contrary opinion, whether or not backed up with facts, but instead of being read as my opinion, some people see it as "having a go" or "shooting down" or some such. Why can't people just discuss stuff without getting all touchy about it?
I don't think he had a bad game against Leeds. I would say he had a mixed game. he did plenty of good stuff but I'd agree he got caught out at times and did look rusty, then again Leeds' defence was very sharp and quick, and our pack didn't give him consistent room to work with.
