It's a fine balancing act. You could argue for any signing we make that its potentially blocking path of one of our u20's and we shouldnt make the signing. You've got to balance short term results against longer term issues like bringing youth through and management of cap space. Whilst there are areas of team I'd look at signing someone for as a short term fix I dont think signing a big name half mid season is really necessary given the personnel already on board. If at the end of the season they guys we've got arent living upto expectations thats when I'd look at it again.

We're clearly in a much better shape for this season than we were for last. I'm not anticipating us storming to the Grand Final, but I expect us to comfortably be in the Top 8 with maybe a good cup run. We have good and bad days, but I confidently expect more good than bad.

If it turns out that we are still falling short by the end of the season, well - Leon will out of contract and - assuming he wants to come - we can sign him then without the cocky Saints being able to do anything about it

We don't need to sign price at all now. When we didn't have an specialist 6 it was a good plan but now we do I think we should look at spending our money elsewhere, if we need to at all.

As for full back we will have enough quality there with Kearney, Platt, Halley and Sykes can cover there if need be.

Why on earth would we want to look at Tansey?? No shortage of fullbacks, and he seems to have considerable baggage. Don't rate him that highly anyway.

Precisely. He's been overrated for his entire career and IMO isn't better than at least 3 of our current fullback options. Hull getting rid of him and a half-decent replacement in would be a massive blessing in disguise for them.

I think we are strong enough in pack to cope with short term injuries but a long term one in the prop department would leave us solely relying on youngsters.

tbh I dont see luke burgess as a better option than either hargreaves or kopczak. And given salary he'd expect as a SL player with a few season under his belt think were better served cap wise sticking with crossley and tom burgess as our backup options (plus of course langley and elima could cover there too). If we were to use cap space on another prop it would have to be someone who was a genuine improvement over hargreaves/koppy imo to make it a sensible option.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; just because we've got cap space and a quota spot it doesn't mean we HAVE to use them.

If someone exceptional becomes available and they'd improve our squad then I'm sure the club would try and sign them. But at the moment, we don't really need to add to the 11 new guys who've already joined the club along with the new head coach and assistant.
