| Quote ="jockabull"Which is a fair point to make. My opinion is that all that matters in that regard is success and profile. Changing the name would have little positive impact on that and would, I think, be outweighed by losing local identity with Bradford.
Yes, there are many fans from outside Bradford but the core are the locals. I would have thought peoples response to your suggestion would have demonstrated that people are attached to the town and having its name associated with the team.
Keeping the pledge numbers high and a return of form will bring sponsors in regardless of the name. Anyway Bradford Bulls already has brand recognition that you would be sacrificing by changing the name. When people ask me who I support, generally they know who we are and how successful we've been.
As I said at the start, the stories you were concerned about aren't visible outside Bradford and everywhere has the same problems. And anyway do you think calling ourselves Northern anything would help with UK wide sponsors? "Northern" hardly has any better connotations for most.'"
I only selected 'Northern' as an example, but in respect to the history of the 'club' rather than its location.
I always purchase a season ticket even if i can not get to games due to work etc to do my bit even before we had the pledge.

| Just to lighten this up a bit, but on a related subject of perceptions of hometowns, an amusing (well to me, anyway...) little anecdote from when I was on holiday at a decent hotel in Cyprus a couple of years ago.
At the weekly manager's cocktail reception for all the guests, we get talking to a woman who seemed fairly full of herself. Talking posh and acting frightfully upper-middle class and all that. When asked where she hailed from, she replied "just outside Harrogate". True to type, we thought. She was a little taken aback though when we said we lived not that far away, northwest of Bradford. After some more discussion, when it became increasingly clear she was not keen on saying precisely where it was she came from, she finally had to say.
Cleckheaton.
It was amusing that she did not feel even Leeds carried the kudos she was looking for! Hope for us yet.

Yes, but apart from that & better range of curry houses, better range of ales, the National Film Museum, Alhambra, St Georges hall, Saltaire, what has it got that Donny hasn't?

| Quote ="hi de hi"Bradford Council always covers itself in......glory?
As i said i am not concerned with what does or does not happen in Bradford or a point scoring exercise of my town is better than yours etc, my concern is for the long term future of the Bulls in regaining a position at the top end of Rugby League which in my opinion would be easier to sell to sponsors etc without the 'Bradford' tag. I am not trying to wind anyone up with this, i am just looking at this from the point of view of potential outside businesses looking in.'"
No, mate Bfd Council doesn't cover itself in glory - far from it, it's as bad as any other to be honest, and on the 'hole in the ground', for not putting proper penalty clauses in the contract with Waste of a Field it was criminally negligent, imo. That was the 'old' lot of course, though the 'new' lot haven't proved much different, as yet.
If you're not concerned with "points scoring" why did you start it?

This is a bit similar to a discussion on one board or another, some years ago. There was a woman/girl who even though she lived directly between Buttershaw Mills and the Buttershaw Tesco, insisted she lived in Wibsey.

| That confusion comes from the fact that the council estate "Buttershaw" is actually in Wibsey! Woodside estate is in Buttershaw! (if you look up old maps and boring stuff like that). The area that is borderd by Buttershaw lane, and the bottom 3rd of cooper lane at either side, and Wibsey park ave and Abscott lane is roughly what was historically termed BUttershaw. the area Wibsey, basically covered what is now Wibsey Village, and anything between reevy road and beacon road upto cooper lane!
Doncaster has the racecourse. that is all that could be termed as better than Bradford. Even Jeremy Clarkson is ashamed of being from there!!! and he has no shame!

If you like, other than the fact that on a Saturday morning i can go and walk around a nice new, shiney , clean shopping centre.
Also i can not see how you can say that Bradford has a better stadium.
But as i said i'm not interested in points scoring, i live where i live and i am happy, you live where you live and you are happy. It was not me who turned this into a Doncaster v Bradford slanging match, i never mentioned Doncaster, i mentioned the name of the Bulls and what would appear from outside looking in to be a better name (in my opinion).

I am certainly not ashamed of being from Donny, quite proud for reasons I find hard to fathom. I still love the place but think it does no-one much good spending their life in the same place. As for Clarkson, but for a couple of miles we would have been at the same school, in the same year. I deeply regret that as I could have kicked the sh[ii[/it out of him on a daily basis.

The naming of estates has a lot to answer for, in as much as today, for many people, they have taken over the names of the districts. The Buttershaw estate sprawls, as you say, from Wibsey to Bank Top and nearly even (but not quite) into Buttershaw itself. It did, and I guess still does, have a bit of a reputation though, hence the good lady's wish to 'move' herself into Wibsey. The top end of Woodside estate is certainly in Buttershaw (I used to live there) though the bottom isn't, being partially in Royds Hall and even Low Moor at the very bottom.
I personally live in Tyersal. That is the district of Tyersal in Bradford, not the Tyersal estate which isn't in Tyersal (though it does butt up to a corner of it) , or despite the BD4 postcode even in Bradford, but wholly in Pudsey. Maybe we have to accept that these things are somewhat dynamic?

Clarkson is one of those people isn't he?
I mean, I'm not normally one of those people to [ireally[/i dislike someone I've never met, but Clarkson just rubs me up the wrong way with everything he says and everything he does. Normally I go the extra mile to find those 'saving graces' that people have and I can usually find something to make me feel they're not [iall[/i bad, even Hitler liked dogs, didn't he? but Clarkson, no, there's nothing there, no empathy or feeling for a fellow human being, just nothing but an intense dislike.
He's not unique though. Thatcher rubs me up the same way and for many of the same reasons; the arrogance, self interest, the bending of facts to support the conclusion, the belief that she was right and the inability to see any any other point of view. I'm going to lie down in a darkened room..........

Now I like Meryl Streep, but I find myself completely unable to even look at a picture of her as Thatcher. I find it more off-putting than pictures of the senile old bag herself.

| It does also work the other way.....
When on holiday in Marmaris (Turkey) there was a huge curry house with a sign outside saying "Famous chef from Bradford".
One evening, me and the Mrs decided to give the curry house a go. We asked if the owner was around and one of the waiters fetched for him. After chatting to him it turns out he was actually from Dewsbury but thought the lure of a 'Bradford' chef would bring in larger amounts of customers!
To be fair, it was a good curry!!

All this talk of 'Crescents' and Boulevards' suggests someone is trying to come on a teensy bit 'Hawwowghahte' (or Arragit, as most of my rellies would no doubt call it, but I'm sure it has more aitches than that ).
