I'm not sure about squad NUMBERS but the SHIRTS are given out in Feb sometime.

shirt presentation night is in feb, but squad numbers are usually announced before xmas. With there being only a few weeks til the presentation night I though they might withold the numbers til the night to make it more of an event.

I suspect something has been agreed "behind closed doors", thus not setting a president for transfer fees for players going to the NRL from the UK.

Well - it does say a compromise has been reached.

Worst case scenario - Orford gets everything he wants and the compromise he makes is that he won't sue us for more for "mental anguish" over the last few months.

Other scenario - no compensation but the compromise is he only gets his basic salary and waives any add-ons, parachute payments, bonus etc which he may have been entitled to.

We will probably never know. As suggested back in oct/nov if we had set his transfer fee at a simple $10-20k we might have saved a lot of money/time/worry

Depends what is in the contract. A football contract we could have fined him up to 2/52 wages every time he didn't show for training. I doubt that is a standard clause in an RL contract

If we were in a sport without a salary cap we might have been able to stick to our guns a bit more, demand he turned up for training Monday and see how it went.

In the end - the only way to find out what the contract is worth is through the courts. Orford probably didn't want that anymore than we did so he will have had to have given us something - if only to save face (ours).

I wouldn't call it saving face if the details are stored in a cupboard and nobody can look at them. Cos without anyone looking at it, the face we have to wear is one of getting nothing.

But screw it. He was a stop gap until we had a more long term half back solution, and now we have two young first choice half backs both with points to prove and another waiting in the wings.

No, IMO. I suggest that this is a reference to a "Compromise Agreement", which employee and employer enter into when one of them (or both mutually) seek to break an employment contract, agree the terms of the break, and need to ensure that the aggrieved party/parties cannot then bring further action for breach of contract or breach of employment law/regulations or whatever other waknerage applies.

These may include confidentiality or non-disclosure terms.

Incidentally, where an employee signs a Compromise Agreement, it is not effective unless the employee has received formal advice from an independent lawyer that he may sign it and is dully aware of its implications.

That sounds about right Adey. We've chatted before about where info enters the public domain with regards to the Bulls. In this case where would Connor get the last piece of info with regards to Orford not forfeiting the money owed? If you are right and I'm sure you are this deal would involve confidentiality agreements. How could a small piece of info which now paints this as a complete capitulation in the face of months of the board saying either he was returning or we would be compensated, enter the public domain. And perhaps more crucially, why?

I've just got off the phone with someone who is very high up at Swinton Lions. He says that they had planned on signing a player called Adam Ryder, a 20 year old centre who they had spotted playing at Huddersfield Underbank Rangers (with our assistant coach) during the summer. Apparently their plans have changed because Bradford have swooped for him.

I can't say I've heard anything about him before but my source is VERY reliable.

Probably going to be a reserves player, but good luck to him if he's taking a chance on having a go at a Super League club instead of going to the Co-op leagues.

I'm certain that Orford will get every penny he is entitled to get from the Bulls. That obviously doesn't preclude that amount changing in the settlement of his release from the contract.
