| Fleetwood Mac are doing a world tour in 2013. I believe that only the US dates have been scheduled so far.

If only Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jerry Spencer were available, now that would be a concert!!

| Fleetwood Mac are part of a generation of artists at the pinnacle of which are those, like them, who are to many people absolute legends, but to millions of the yoof of today, if they have ever heard of them at all, are of absolutely no consequence or interest to them.

I think you are generalising a bit there. My daughter was brought up in a house which played a constant diet of Doors, Cream, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc. and although she is currently a Muse fanatic she is very much into the older stuff. I am sure that there are many others of her generation who had a similar upbringing.
She and her mate went to a Quo gig with me a few years ago and I was amazed to see how many teenagers were in the audience.
The only downside to this is that we play Songpop against each other on Facebook/Mobile phone and she stuffs me on the modern stuff and often beats me on 60's and 70's music as well.

I was indeed generalising, as I think my post made clear. Your daughter (and mine!) are very much the exception. I remember the Beeb interviewing schoolkids about the Beatles anniversary, and many hadn't even heard of them, nor could recognise classic tracks. That is not really a criticism, nobody [ihas[/i to be interested in (what is now) historical music, but it is true that what you or I may consider heroes are near-to-complete irrelevant zeroes for I would say the majority of young people.
It is very sad when the brilliance of a band like Fleetwood Mac is a mystery to a young person, but my post wasn't having a go at young 'uns for ignorance, just explaining why a concert by Fleetwood Mac might not be the attraction today that the older end sometimes assume it automatically would be.

| I think that Mac, like maybe Status Quo and the Stones have had such a long existence they cover many more bases than the average, so would be ideal in many ways. In any case, if we're talking 'festivals', there would be more than a single act surely? so plenty of scope to cover different ages/tastes in the same event. Biggest problem with acts like those though, would be convincing them that a first time event would be the sort of thing they'd want to be associated with, given that I'm sure they would get dozens of other offers in the summer.

| Anyway, we shall soon find out, because while we all debate, the Bulls have got on with it and have 2 or 3 events already pencilled in, so no doubt our discussions are already out of date as preparations will already be well under way and acts being signed up as we speak.

In the seventies, they were a Pale copy of the 'real' Fleetwood Mac imo, but for commercial stuff, it was quality pop to be fair. Not a patch on the earlier, more bluesy, band though, for me anyway.

| To be fair, I'd suggest the 'need to make a buck', points in the direction of better known, more 'established' acts, though as I said earlier, if they're talking 'festivals' it suggests more than one band so there should be plenty of scope for a bit of variety and the more people attracted, the better.
Dare I say though, Buzzin sounds like a plague of wasps and might put off more people than it attracts...

| Whatever the make up of the bill, lets hope that the organisers dont do a "one size fits all" attempt.
Even though they are all well into their 60's, this incarnation of Fleetwood mac ( the "Classic" 1975-87 minus Christine McVie) would sell out pretty much every night of any tour they do. Thats what promoters are for. they plan just enough gigs to sell out, ensuring that demand can just be met! Currently most of their tours are arena tours though, even though they are rumoured (no pun) to be playing Glastonbury!
My bet is on an 80s-90s revival festival like rewind, which draws 60,000 each year in Henley on Thames!

| As part of his World Tour, Bruce Springsteen is playing at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, home of the Aussie Open tennis. An arena that only holds 14500 people, plus space on the court area. Just a thought......

| How much of a money spinner, if at all, would an event like this be for the club even with a full house ? The prestige of such an event at Odsal and for Bradford would make it worthwhile but the club need to increase income. When you consider how many excellent stadiums there are in this country and how few seem to use them for this kind of event makes me wonder if it's worth all the work involved. Elland Rd and Huddersfield have both had them in the past but don't seem to bother now.

| Putting on a gig or festival = (ticket sales and other sales income), minus (total cost of staging it + fees charged by artists).
If you are going to have the likes of Springsteen then at the risk of stating the obvious, it will cost a pretty penny. It is very hard to make a significant profit on top dollar acts unless you have a huge arena, or you can sell sky-high priced tickets; or else get the turn to play cut price. I gather that the fees for Bruce and his band and crew broadly speaking are around $4m-5m. I wouldn't pay £300 for a ticket, but if anyone wants an actual quote then

Quote The fees for Major international stars are from a minimum of $100,000.00 up to $5,000,000.00.
We do not book Artists for Charity events at reduced fees, or for personal appearances.

Would we be actually putting concerts on though. Surely it would be similar to monster truck deal where we make the stadium available for a fee and a promoter takes all the financial risks and arranges everything. We make our money on fee for use of stadium and money throughbars if we open them?.

Tbh does it matter if they make most of the money. Any money raised is extra money coming into the club so to be welcomed, plus we can still make money through the bars and coral stand catering which we do know how to do. Let promoters take the risks, if it comes off and they get a sellout they get a big profit, flip side is if its a flop they lose money. We get paid either way.

| Don't the big established acts generally go where there is plenty of premium rate corprate seating? I would think Odsa is more cheap and cheerful, more suited to a student type crowd. Plenty going on around the ground but not much seating. Appealing to the under 25's rather than us middle aged.

| Slightly underwhelmed to be honest. Think the build up / talk has hyped it a little too much in my eyes.
Hope it works, Astley does have a wide following and I know the 80's are the "in thing" music wise I suppose.
One thing in the clubs favour is that if they'd got (for example), the Foo Fighters, they could have got lots wrong with ticketing, parking, beer, food, all sorts at the first attempt when everything would have been new.
By having a "lower key" set of performers, the number attending would be much smaller and any mis-haps easier to manage.

Indeed; someone at the club told me you used to have the hots for Clare Grogan...
Although the scary thing is that I fully agree with what you said.
Darkened room to lie down in required...

| A bit before my time but Rick Astley and Belinda Carlisle are well known acts from that era. I would assume they will save the best acts until last so I'm looking forward to hearing who they have lined up for the Sunday and Monday. Hopefully a decent Rock band will be included in the line up.
If we get a favourable weekend with the weather I think it might be well worth a few hours, especially with some nice ales on.
