| Quote ="jockabull"Can't agree with all the slating of Herbert. I like the way he plays, getting stuck in all over the place. A quick read of the T&A report should show what he did for the team yesterday.
The guy sets up two tries and then we get this thread? I'm bemused. The bomb right onto the posts from 30m out was a fullbacks nightmare and the inside pass to Sykes was quality - we need more of that 10m out not dropping the guy doing it.'"
indeed, we have a creative scrum half who is setting up tries and his kicking game is improving week after week. a bit of a headscratcher when threads like this appear.

| He's made a few handling errors and a few missed tackles but he's certainly not alone in doing that. But he is already top for try assists in the Bulls squad.

| The jury is still out on Herbert but i've got to say so far i'm unimpressed. He does'nt really have any zip and his passing seems somewhat laboured at times, maybe he'll improve when he gets to play with a natural Stand Off (Briggs)

Nail and head. I sense several people are just looking for the next scapegoat. Herbert basically won us the match yesterday with 2 sublime passes, and is doing more than enough to justify being at 7. Some people really do have unreasonable expectations, and these invariably co-incide with a myopia as to the excellent contributions the targeted player [idoes[/i make.

At the beginning of his time there they thought they'd got a turkey. Some were calling him Sean Rudder Mk 2
I think some are jumping on Herbert's back a bit too soon. He's making steady progress IMO.

and add to that the only change to their playmaking positions (1,6,7,9,13) was introduction of dureaux and hendo as bench hooker. We've changed both halves and a hooking spot and been unable to field the same team consistently due to injuries. Hardly ideal cicumstances to bring a new half into. Its not just herbert that has to adjust. everyone around him has to learn how he plays too and put themselves in the correct positions to take his offloads etc.

| Not at all bad for someone who isn't pulling his weight according to some! Especially more when you compare him to Deacon who is playing in the champion team,
Deacon - 4 Apps - 0 Tries - 2 Assists - 51m Gained - 23 Carries - 47 Tackles
Herbert - 5 Apps - 1 Try - 8 Assists - 246m Gained - 71 Carries - 127 - Tackles
Before checking this I didn't even realise his tackle amount, averaging 25 tackles a game .....thats some stat for a s/h

Almost matches Deacon's 2009 23 appearance contribution already. Still Herbert is not organising.

I noticed. In fact I mentioned at the game on Sunday that Quins at one point seemed to be targetting him in defence, and that's a mistake. He's a solid defender and doesn't seem to miss many. In fact with his size and defensive ability, I don't think he'd be lost in the loose forward role if we were ever desperate.

If that was aimed at me in any way I can assure you that you could not be further from being correct if you tried. Despite his surname, Potter is no magician. He came along and had a MASSIVE job to do and there is no way that he is going to get it right so soon. We are a team in transition, therefore we will generally be inconsistent, get some good wins, suffer some heavy defeats. That is how it goes.
So far we are exactly where I expected us to be. We have lost to Leeds, Wigans, Saints and Huddersfield, all teams expected to finish higher than us but on the flip side we have beaten the sides we need to beat in order to be getting into the play-offs. We are the only side to beat the surprise package of Castleford, beat a Quins team that although are out of form have already away to Leeds and Saints this year and had a couple of comfortable wins against the Welsh and Wakefield.
All done despite the loss of key players and an ever growing injury list that includes/has included Raynor, Walker, Langley, LeStrange, Scruton, Addy, Platt, Briggs and Herbert. It is hard enough trying to get a completely new side to gel together without it being decimated by injuries.
The problems have been caused over the last couple of years. Potter deserves some time to get things right and I will be 100% behind him and his players. However, if other people want to complain then it is entirely their right to do so. As i have always stated in the past, a supporter of a side does not always have to 100% back a team, its coach or it's performances. If things ain't going well then I believe people should voice their anger. Blindly following and accepting is pointless and pathetic.

agree with that and I would add that the games we have won by 2 points were the kind of games we were losing under McNamara. there's a bit of steel in us this year, just a bit more polish to go.
