| I didn't see the game so can't really comment. But am going to anyway.
Surely a good rule of thumb is...
...had the incident in question been performed by one of your own teams players...what would you like/expect to see happen then?

| McGuire is a skilful player, he committed a skilful piece of cheating.
If ever there was a perfect example of a professional foul - this was it. There was a chance (no more
tahn that) that Carmont could back up Richards for the match winning try. Mcguire calculated that there was less than a minute left, a penalty from where he took out Carmont was not kickable, if he was caught & yellow-carded there was little time left for Leeds to defend with 12 men. It would deny Wigan their best (only?) opportunity to win. In a professional sport where winning is everything, this is a no-brainer. there was no perceived downside. Then he got injured doing it.
The vast majority of folk agree that wishing SERIOUS injury on a player is immoral. Although I have been known to ask for a small hamstring tweak on the star player of a team we are about to play.
I can also see that there should have been the facility to punish McGuire for his "gamesmanship" if he was uninjured. We can only wonder what might have happened if he was uninjured - would it have been put on report? Could it have been cited if missed?
Anyway, a cracking game, a professional foul with unintended consequences, lots of opinions. McGuire & Leeds will have to deal with the consequences. I hope his recovery is uncomplicated

| I have no problem with what Sam Tomkins did. If the ref catches on to it he is penalised, simple. it's not sporting, but milking any penalty never is.

Warra load of spurious, self-righteous c0ck.
Get this straight, because this magnanimous stance is becoming very dull. McGuire did what most other players would do. It's about as simple as that.
Jesus, do you need oxygen up there on that high horse?

I suspect that the simple fact is, that like Ewwen, FA is just narked that Leeds won.

| Big Les was hardly as pure as the driven snow when it came to bumping the odd runner. Strangely, I can't recall too many on here wishing season-ending injuries on him, nor even the occasional ban.

Thankfully I've only seen two who have wished McGuire injury. Two more than I'd have liked to see, but I hope the rest of us don't get tarred with the same @rsehole brush.

That wouldn't suit their blinkered narrative.
Heath L'Estrange, Paul Sykes, Glenn Hall (quite how given his game time) are in the Top 17 of most penalised players. I don't for one minute believe all of these were incidental or accidental.
Let's also not mention Terry Newton who was masquerading around in a Bulls shirt with penalty machine pinned on his back. Didn't hear our Bulls faithful taking so much issue then.
It was a penalty, not a hanging offence. Folk need to man up and get a grip.

| Did McGuire intentionally bring Carmont down? I've only seen the incident from the front end on the SLTV highlights and you could argue it was unintentional from that angle.

Genuinely, I think only McGuire can answer that..and why would he?
What is abundantly clear in the thread is that the "Leeds" element of the issue is dominant. Had it been Quins or Dragons, a simple "penalty for McGuire challenge, Donald's wasn't, play back to the Wigan 40, 5 seconds on the clock, likely tackle, game over. Richards could also have won the game with the resulting penalty, that is also being ignored, wrongly.
Wigan choked. Simples.

I've fallen head over heels in love with Danny recently, but I am sure it was intentional.

| Well if it was intentional he just took one for the team. No big deal. However I would say if he's going to impede a support player he'd be safer trying just to pull the bloke back or tackle him rather than try and make it look accidental by getting his legs tangled up with theirs - you can get a bad injury that way.

If you had any sense you'd keep a low profile for a while. Wishing injury on Carmont had roles been reversed does you no more credit.
Having read your posts on here and the VT it is clear that you always take the anti-Leeds interpretation or opinion on most matters. Don't try to claim that you are somehow impartial. Evidently you enjoy watching Leeds lose as much if not more than seeing the Bulls win.

No, but your resulting tirade against McGuire and hoping for his injury to be serious, is. Appalling human response for what is already an incredibly tough sport.

Stop making it personal, it doesn't help. And you should also look up what "magnanimous" means, if you want to use big words.
And I am sure the vast majority of players wouldn't do what McGuire did. That is why it is so rare to see someone doing what McGuire did.

I'm not. If the player realised at that point that they have a choice. 1) Lose the match from a certain try. 2) Commit a foul that will give away a penalty in an area of the field they can't kick from and at the most receive a yellow card.
I'd be surprised if less than 95% of players would choose option 2.
The only thing is, quite a few players probably wouldn't realise until too late that these are the 2 options. That'd be the only reason they wouldn't do it IMO.

| You forgot option 3: Keep up with Carmont and tackle him when he receives the ball from Richards.
McGuire is faster than Carmont by some distance, so could quite easily have taken this option.

No I didn't. I was simply pointing out that faced with only 2 options, most players would choose the foul play one. We may not like that, but that's how it is. Yeah there are other options, but those are the two most obvious ones. If you have the opportunity to stop a scoring play that will change the result of the game, you do it.
It's exactly the same as the earlier analogy about the footballer handballing on the line.
