The skill levels in our squad are nothing compared to the top teams.

If we perform at 100%, then we can compete, but if our levels drop to 90% then Wigan, Sts, Warrington, Leeds only have to perform at 80% to beat us.

Thats what happened on Saturday. Plenty of effort, bags of potential, but still not good enough to Beat Warrington on an off day.

If we were to sign Mathers I'd hope it was to play stand off. However depending on how Southernwood progresses and Orford recovers I'd hang fire. I'd say a centre or winger of some quality would be a priority.

Perhaps they can comment given that "Mr Average" is likely on a lower scale salary and continually does a job when asked, hence his Grand Final winners rings. Anyone who shows the commitment to catch an "international" Paul Sykes from behind given 15 metres to make up is doing something right mentally and physically. I'm sure he doesn't purport to be Sam Thaiday.

With reference to the topic title, Mathers would be a great addition to the squad and is arguably on a par with Kearney and critically, is English. Far, far superior to the outstandingly average Halley, Sykes and Reardon who have all masqueraded around as fake fullbacks for far too long. That "tread water" Halley continues to think he is a full back in a mystery that even the cast of Scooby Doo couldn't solve.

There it is, the comment we knew was coming regarding Kirke catching Sykes! Oh how predictable
