The stand outs for me were :

Gale - Organised, created and was more vocal than any half we saw last season. He''s going to be an automatic starter with the other 3 fighting it out for 6.

Purtell - Good first stint, took his try well, as others have said his defence looks good.

Bateman - Looked a great prospect as usual, He needs some gametime and with Elima and Whitehead out for first few he might get it.

Donno - looked better than he did all last season.

O'Brien - we now have the option of resting Heath or Disko as this kid is good enough to play in SL.

Kearney - what we've come to expect.

Joseph - definitely worth a year.


Hopefully we'll carry the positives into the next game vs SL opposition. With Heath, Lulia, Elima, Whitehead, Langley, Sammut & Kear to come into the side I'm hopeful we can make the 8 this season.

Certainly did them no harm. If it was a decision purely based on onfield issues he'd be a strong candidate. But I'll stick with I said before. Think it's a little early for him and he needs a season or two to earn respect of other players. Big call to make a new signing the captain and IMO only think you can pull it off it's a relatively big name/senior player coming in.

agreed, but its good to have another candidate, and from the sound of it hes going to be doing plenty of talking on the pitch whether captain or not.

No mention of Luke Gale in the entire article and whilst we've made other decent looking signings I can't help feel upon Luke's shoulders the season hangs. I know there's a million and one other factors but you can see just from a good run out against Dewsbury, the extent to which the Bulls fans instinctively feel a significant improvement at scrum half would have a greater impact on the team than a good player in any other position.

absolutely agree, and its significant that Gale was one of the first signings. from the sound of it much more directing by Gale and therefore direction. If the rest of SL don't appreciate how key a player Gale is to us, then great, lets surprise them! That sense of direction becomes habit, so if Gale has short injuries I would hope that it means team dont revert to 2009-11 mode of muddle. talking of muddle Hulls game v KR sounds like our game at Cas, knock ons and forward passes, a pack that is too small and the same type etc. the grass is always greener!

I thought Gale was key for us today as was the forwards getting well on top. I thought we really dominated the collision and the ruck with players making some really good quick PTBs that Diskin and O'Brien exploited well.

Gale showed just how much we'd missed a midfield general. We'd have had more points had players held onto passes or taken different options.

Things slackened off in the second half once we put the young lads on and we lost cohesion.

I was please with how Joseph went. He's a good option for a year. He covered every blade of grass, made good yards, defended well. Get him signed up.

with the props we've got plus Joseph when hes signed, one pack option Potter has got for a full on arm wrestle is

Agree with all that.
I'd just add my main thought on Gale was how well, and how keen he was, to take on the defender one on one. It's the type of Scrum half we've not had for a while. Left me wanting more I have to say, bring it on.

I enjoyed Gale's break in the second half where he dummied inside then outside and ran through the gap. If we can give him runners and options he'll go very well. The goalkicking looked very decent too.

He was immense with ball in hand. Dewsbury took 3 men to stop him each time and they still didnt put him on the deck!

His tackling was sometimes a little off but that will improve am sure. The more competition for places the better! It can only help.
