| I am gutted Orford is not coming back, IMO easily the best SH in SL last year. I agree his actions are way out of order, if the Bulls, or anyone, ended someone's contract, apart from breach, they would be paying compensation - likely the remainder of the contract & possibly any likely bonuses. You are in the same boat as last year now.

Feel free to do so.
I've no interest in people throwing around spurious legal offerings and taking the moral high ground when:
1) If we signed Cooper Cronk tomorrow under precisely the same circumstances as Orford to Canberra, there would be enough white bodily fluid being knocked out in Bradford to treble the population of China.
2) Legal witterings don't factor in any individuals emotional well-being or plain human reaction of "I just wish to leave because I'm more comfortable in place x"
Orford is leaving for whatever reason. I actually don't care, nor should anyone else. It happens in sport repeatedly. He doesn't wish to be here, as to why, who cares.

... then it would be a good signing. You appear to be missing the point entirely. Orford should have seen out his contract, but as he won't, then he can play anywhere he wants so long as we get paid. And since he won't play anywhere before a deal that we agree has been done, when he does play it will be for a club which has done the right thing and coughed up the brass. Why would you disparage that club's fans? A true non-point.

As fans? Are you actually a fan of the club?
You feel that Orford has acted appropriately then? If you were an employer, you would be fine with an employee of yours acting the same way?

well this is the quote from an article someones put on T&A website. unfotunately they dont give a source so I cant put a link to that up.
Quote Meanwhile, the Eels will intensify negotiations to sign former Manly captain Matt Orford when his manager, George Mimis, returns from the US later this week. The halfback has requested a release from the remaining two years of his Bradford contract and is being sought by Parramatta and Canberra.
.
Bradford officials want a transfer fee but Mimis is understood to have told the Eels and Raiders he believes the Super League club has no grounds to demand a payment for Orford's release. The Bulls have signed Canberra halfback Marc Herbert to replace Orford.

| Where did this $200k come from? We need to end this. I think we just go for £25-30k compo which would cover his last couple of months wages, face saving all round, chapter closed, move on.

Indeed Adey! Unfortunately, apparently living in a moral vacuum, these people seem have an innate belief in their own abilities, allied with a total lack of any sort of the conscience which would make most people behave more considerately. What is more they always seem to come through life's travails totally unscathed, rising inexorably, scum like, to the surface. You, and I, wouldn't be able to sleep at night, somehow I doubt he's too bothered.

Yeah right!
Definition of a contract with the Bradford Bulls :
If you're injured, ill or hopeless you can stay and claim wages for the full duration of the contract.
If you're good and someone else is prepared to offer you a better/preferable opportunity elsewhere you can negotiate said contract while the Bradford Bulls are paying you while at the same time denying you are doing so and promising to return. Despite the cost/inconvenience to the Bulls they will accept 25-30k and move on even though they have paid the player much more than that while he has sat in Sydney chatting numbers with Parramatta.
Unlike any other contract in the world this contract only protects one party.
If Orford had been injured at the end of the season and was not fit to start the coming NRL season he would still be our player because the NRL clubs wouldn't want him. When we accept this behaviour from Orford what do we say to L'Estrange or Kearney should they get homesick mid-season? Despite him being disappointing we have to keep paying Glen Hall for 2 more years. WHY? Because we signed the contract.
Had Orford said in July, let's shake hands and part company, I'd have said yes and best of luck. But he didn't, he lied to keep taking our money.
If you're so magnanimous about Orford's behaviour you write off 100k of your own money, but as a season ticket holder I want mine back and I demand my club stand up to Orford and Mimmis and send a clear message to any who in the future think they can make a deal to take our money and then renege.

| Apologies if this has already been discussed earlier. What will happen if the Aussie clubs refuse to pay compo and the Bulls won't let him go for free? I know that Hood said that we'd retain his registration but wouldn't that mean we have too many overseas players now we've signed Herbert? Does having a players registration count on the quota? Wouldn't have thought it would but don't know for sure.
Hope the clubs in Oz don't listen to low life Mimis or I can see this dragging on for ages. What if it went to court and they side with the Bulls, Oz clubs still won't pay compo and Orford has to see out his contract?

Tame Tupou? Whilst legally that was fine, morally I was not convinced at the time. The boot is on the other foot now. Legally what Orford is doing is fine, we are just negotiating the terms of his release, morally I agree it stinks.

Whilst we are negotiating, we are still paying his wage, the faster we move him on, the less money we lose.
His shoulder injury happened early May? It would take 12 weeks for him to recover from that which takes him up to August. The only reason I went for £25 -30k is it would put the bulls back to the position they would have been in if Orford had moved in August. We have to set compo which is [uachievable[/u. Otherwise we continue to lose money as we argue about it and if no release is agreed then we are heading towards court which I think the Bulls need like a hole in the head. The amount of money I think we can get from an Aussie club will range from a Sam Burgess amount (thousands) to an Eastwood amount (SFA). I put it to you that Orford will be closer to the Eastwood side of that range. We need to move him on. As long as we get some money for him, we will have done better that I expect

I'm pretty sure his manger wouldn't leave Orford clubless. They'd take it to court and expect us to honour his contract at least. Obviously we can't let that happen so how far do the Bulls push this?

Guess it depends if we need anything from the deal to use elsewhere, for a stand off maybe?
If we don't need the cash for elsewhere they'll push it as far as they can but short of court action I guess.
