Is that the place that has the banner on for a Leeds curry house (forget the name?) near Bombay Stores?

Aye. An ex-housemate was the last landlord before it was bought up by those people with the intent to turn it into a curry house. That was the last thing that happened to it as far as I know.

I've been there with one of my former shags and we both thought it were great. The Three Singhs there kept referring to us as Sahiba and Sahib respectively and we were both well impressed with that kind of bowing and fawning deference as the staff there all seem to know their place. No chips on their shoulders at all, if only other muslims were like that, eh?
The food was rubbish though and the chicken tikka wasn't even cooked properly. They eat with their hands in India as well. Or is that China? And you never know where their hands have been.
Prefer a Birds Eye boil-in-the-bag curry and rice any day of the week though.

| Regarding the Shimla and the Shearbridge pub, I miss the one inbetween far more. The Shezan curry house was a very frequent haunt of mine when I was at Uni, as was the one just up the road that's not there any more. (The Shabina was it?)

Shimla do stonking chicken kebabs. I'm not sure keeping the mayonaisse they drench them in next to the kebab burners is the best idea they ever had like, but the price you pay for that is definitely worth it.

Just a little further up Great Horton Road from Shearbridge roundabout on the right (on the corner of a side road).
I think it's something else now, but I forget what. I'll be driving down that way in a couple of hours, so I'll swing by and have a look what it is now.

Ah, I know the one. On the corner of the first right up from the roundabout? Right opposite the new private halls that have been built? At the moment the entrance is a bit of dry seclusion from the elements for the people who work in the council depot on Shearbridge Road to have their fags in. It's also where I roll my first fag of the morning walking in to work on windy days.
There used to be an indie venue underneath it as I recall, if we're thinking of the same place. I went to a few punk gigs down there in the early 90s.
atm it's nothing but an emptry building otherwise.

Aye, it was right on the corner of Summerville Rd and Gt Horton Rd. There was no indie club underneath it though. That was a bit further down, was called the Underworld IIRC, a goth place that served booze in purple plastic glasses.
Used to be able to get a superb curry for £2.50+ back in the early 90s in the Shabina. It was always packed too, a great place. Nowhere else has ever really come close thought I may have my rose tinted specs on now.
I remember my first proper Bradford curry was in the Evershine (or Evere as it was known!) on Morley Street just by Pickwicks (also now gone!). That was very decent too but the place was shut a year or so later after an Environmental Health visit IIRC.

Underworld, that was it. If it's right on that corner then the Underworld was deffo underneath it. The whole place is about [url=http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=summerville+road+bradford&sll=53.098145,-2.443696&sspn=7.77504,14.018555&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=18&ll=53.788781,-1.77036&spn=0.001867,0.005182&t=k&om=1three terraced houses wide[/url as it faces GH Road, and the entrance for Underworld was on GH Road. To the left is road, to the right is council depot.

| The Shabina is now a Rajas. Drove past a short while ago, and it's definitely still open.
I also thought the underworld was just a little bit along from there, but I only went once so I'm not 100% sure.
I agree about the quality of the Shabina though. Was always my favourite curry when I was at Uni (about 8-10 years ago)

The Underworld deffo wasn't underneath the Shabina. It was the same side of Gt Horton Rd but under the row at the other side of Summerville Rd. More opposite the filling station than the Shabina.
Anyway, enough of such minutae.
The Shabina ruled. I still mourn its passing.

| Went to Kashmir with A-Fire-Inside and AP yesterday.
It was the first time I'd been and I thought it was alright. A bit like being in a 1970s decorated nuclear bunker but ok all the same.
I had a seekh kebab (80p) and it was alright. Meat was good but maybe lacking in a bit of spice. 5/10
For the main I had a vegetable karahi and that was spot on. Plenty of fresh veg* and enough fresh green chillis to give it a decent kick. 9/10.
Two rotis to go with it. They were pretty good but had a bit of a tendency toards going a bit dry. 6/10.
Overall it can't have been much more than £6 for the lot.
[size=75*The most notable veg was the cabbage. That's cabbage and curry. Oh, and a Czech 'black lager' beforehand. The window to the bedroom stayed open all night after fire safety advice.[/size

The total bill for the 3 of us was £16.50... that's £5.50 each... so your £7 contribution to the bill was much appreciated
