At my club we had a similar thing with Matt King and Mike Monaghan, both were homesick and although it was never said if they could have gotten back to the NRL then they might have gone but............they both toughed it out and got on with the job.

In return they have been to Wembley twice and are a part of a successful team. I hope Matt Orford sort things out and stays at the Bulls.

Orford won't be back. Most of us realised that months ago.

Unlike King and Monaghan, Orford appears to have has conducted himself completely dishonourably, using third-hand Oz media "leaks" instead of being honest with the club - presumably so the club carried on paying him. I guess the difference was that he got injured and went back home, and the temptation was too great.

I think the Bulls are continuing to play this right. Credit to Hood and the board.

I would hope that they've taken sufficient legal adivice in relation to the whole employment contract matter to ensure they don't prejudice the club's position as regards the compensation.

In response to some of the comments about fining Orford; this might sound all well and good, but even if it doesn't prejudice the claim to compensation, it's not going to be so easy to enforce with Orford being over the other side of the globe.

Don't see how the situations are comparable. King and Monaghan were both disappointing in their first season and in the case of King, Wire would have released him like a shot, Orford on the other hand played well.

This is why the club are right to take a firm stance on this. If they are flops like King in his first season they stay as nobody else wants them but if they play well like Orford and Eastwood and they can get comparable money in the NRL they sulk until they get released.

I understand the club have sought clarification and support from the RFL and have been told they can withhold payment from Orford and keep his registration.

I'd say the biggest difference between Bulls and Leeds is that you really didn't want to lose Orford as he was by far your best player. Whereas Diskin isn't a departure the Leeds fan are losing sleep over. Building a nice team of Leeds rejects I'd say.
