| Seems to me whatever Pryce does he wont get credit. He has done his job for me this season.
Regarding Crookes I would keep him however up to this season he has not been SL quality.

You could substitute Crookes for Pryce in the first sentence & Pryce for Crookes in the second.

I thought I made that quite clear Statto.

He has some of the obvious physical and skill abilities, which he uses occationally, but he seems to lack the mental ability/determination/whatever, to join it all together consistantly, which is an ability in its own right IMO. So he is not the complete like Newlove was or as consistantly dangerous or creative in attack as Leon was, but he is still a good super league squad player who has not done much wrong this season despite not being the player he could potentialy be.

Newlove was the complete centre physically but still lacked the mental strength to be an international great IMO.

| Pryce has done a decent job so far this season.
I think he gets a lot of bad press because at times his body language isn't the best. He doesn't seem to have the urgency that he needs at certain times.
He has had a lot to live up to because he stood out so much when he was junior and hasn't progressed in the way people would have liked. He's done ok and I would be looking to keep him if the terms were right.

| IMO a comparison of Price to Crookes is not the issue, rather the overall squad
A team needs 4 wingers with at least 2 to be highly competent in another position.
ATM we have
Price
Ainscough
Crookes
Kear.
The first three are OOC this year.
If we have no junior player coming through, and we do not sign another, then I would not be surprised if we try to keep them all

in the [usquad[/u, if Crookes is not in the squad who would you replace him with make the numbers back up to 4 wingers? or which two replacements, as Ainsco has been fourth choice and may decide to go elsewhere next year? Then of course Kearney could be off Kear could becomes FB, three replacements? I would like Crookes and Pryce to get extensions as they all have different attributes, (Pryce knocking several Hudds forwards back on their @rses was one of the highlights of that game for me), so that just leaves Ainsco as a question mark.

If Crookes is not going to be getting guaranteed first team rugby and may have to settle for a squad place then I doubt he would want to re-sign anyway TBH.

| I agree ME, that is another possibility, but it doesn't answer my question, who would you replace Crookes with? I dont think theres anyone in the junior squads knocking Potters door down, so it would have to be from outside. Any thoughts?

| Who knows what investment Caisley has lined up? and if he has got something lined up, and Shenton and Purtell think its a good idea, looks like a good idea to me too.
ME, have you got any thoughts?

Aye, deffo no to Shenton. Decidedly average for the wage he would expect.
Dixon and Owen from Cas would be nice. Platt is also signed up till about 2045 so he could be one of the Bradford Four.

| Agree with the opinion that Shenton is very average and would want most likely want better than average money. Not that it matters right now as there is an RFL embargo on us signing new contracts, as I remember.

If its right and Hull are throwing the money at him he want turn down a 3 year deal. I truely hope im wrong because I think this kid has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years under MP.

| Well he'll need to pay the bills and the longer we leave it before sorting out the future the more likely those with deals running out will go elsewhere.

I see what you're saying, and I'm inclined to agree. And he won't be the last either.
From my own point of view I have a suspicion the Bulls would be well served fitting a revolving door to the entrance/exit at Odsal this close season....providing we can find one on offer somewhere, we can't afford full price.

I'm not sure how it works when a player is in the last year of his contract, but certainly re Bateman the only way they can approach is if we give them permission.
I'm not sure how rigidly these rules are adhered to, mind.

| It's from about now until the end of June that those whose contracts are running out (at every club) will be contacting their club to either negotiate for an extension or permission for their agent to start touting them around the other clubs.
For a club in "special measures" I don't know if the inability to negotiate an extension automatically defaults to allowing players to getoffers from other clubs.
It will be down to how long the players will want to give the club.
It will depend on many things. How the players feel they have been treated, if they have faith that the recovery shown this season will continue, will they get a better offer elsewhere (or if a lesser offer than expected - is it worth holding on until the Bulls can negotiate). Where are they in their career? Will this be their last contract? or their first decent contract?
Time is of the essence

We all know it goes on - always has done.
It's against the rules to speak to the player but how do you stop clubs speaking to an agent? Or agents approaching clubs?
I've mentioned this before. In Jamie Peacock's book he tells of his transfer to Leeds, how he met Tony Smith (then Leeds coach) and Gary Hetherington at "Smithy's house on the moors" in MARCH of the year he left, and this was after a falling out so I can't see permission being given. If it's ignored when the player concerned brags about it in print, what chance is there?
