| Iestyn Harris - highly regarded by those in the game in terms of his coaching potential, seemed to do a good job with the Wales team he took over in a short space of time last year and has been involved in some promising work at both Featherstone and Crusaders in the last couple of seasons.
As a pundit he always seems to offer a level of insight and reading of the game unmatched by anyone else on our screens or airwaves and I'd be very interested to see how he does as a head coach, at the end of 2007 when I gave up on McNamara as a first team coach I did suggest him as a replacement, so I may be slightly biased here.
Cummins and Poching have both been involved in a coaching set-up that has led a team to 3 GF wins in a row, while successfully integrating home grown talent into the first team, they were both brought into the coaching set-up at Leeds by Tony Smith, who is of course brother to Brian so they can be claimed as part of his "stable" which oddly seems important to quite a few people, they might not be such a bad shout.

| It's not the end of the world if it's Iestyn, but it would be quite a gamble. He's shown some promise as Asim points out, but whether or not it's the right time to pick someone relatively unproven is debatable. I also imagine it wouldn't be particularly helpful in terms of getting people back to Odsal, and it might well look like a 'third place' choice after McDermott and Potter and make people question why we were unable to secure the services of either of the other two.
Nothing I've seen links him with the post nor have I seen any indication that he's keen, but I will wait and see. I'm just hoping that whoever it is, the announcement can be widely interpreted as 'positive' news and will encourage a few spectators back to see whether the new man can ring the changes.

maybe he will but it would be one hell of a gamble for board to take. Cant see it attracting many of the stay aways back either considering iestyns part in our current financial woes either.

Its got storybook ending written all over it, the man who's transfer seemed to be so key to our current plight leading the club back to glory.
Thats that sorted then, irony wins.

I don't think there is a "name" who would get the crowds flocking back to Odsal on a regular basis, apart from maybe Brian Noble or Robbie Paul simply for sentimental reasons, and even then I doubt it would be that significant in terms of numbers.
The profile of RL is such that the "floating" fan is unlikely to have his or her head turned in the same way that a football team could benefit by appointing, for example, a famous international player.
I think most people who closely follow the game would be enthused by an appointment in the same vein as Wigan's decision to go for Michael Maguire, but that would barely register with the type of fan who has lost interest in attending games.
A new coach providing decent results is the only way crowds will start going back the right way, backed up with a pro-active marketing strategy.

Id very much agree on the Harris points, I think he will make a very good coach, but then, that was exactly what was said about McNamara. Which might stilll turn out to be the case for both of them, but do we want to be the place where another coach learns from his mistakes in publc like Mcnamara has? (or not as the case may be) A gamble which might well work, but still a gamble. One that I would support though if the club felt that was the best option.
Cummins and Poaching??? Absolutely not for me, hard to think of a worse pair of names that have been linked, and thats a list that includes Paul Cullen and Ian Millward.

This is spot on, no matter who the coach is.

| If we're going down the 'assistant' route I'd prefer someone with a little more experience than Cummins or Harris. Both may well be potentially very good head coaches but it would be a gamble since neither have been Head Coach. If I was making the decision, I would be looking for a 'safe pair of hands'.
I'm actually getting a little nervous about what news we may get this week. If we do go for a rookie, I just hope we also bring in another assistant to bolster our coaching team a little.

agreed as backroom staff no problem, certainly an improvement on st hilaire. But cummins has specifically said he's looking for a head coaching role. If he was happy as a number 2 then he'd be staying at leeds. dont think we can take gamble of having a rookie no 1 learning his trade on our time again.

What have Cummins & Poching done to indicate they would be an improvement on St Hilaire? I have no knowledge of any of their potential, just being part of a successful club doesn't mean much IMO. Look at MacNamara. Compared to the likes of WIgan, Leeds have seemed to me to have a weaker coaching staff over the last few years.

The Bradford legend had reiterated his commitment to the London side but was then strangely absent from the post-match press conference following the 35-18 win against his former club on Friday.
McDermott could be lined up if a deal for St Helens boss Mick Potter hits a snag. '"

| Sounds from Mr Murphy that we are to expect a "groundbreaking" announcement very imminently - and NOT about the new coach.
Methinks the current story may well have legs?
