From what i gather it's 2 very wealthy businessmen willing to fund Toronto. So it's not like it's the RFL funding it. No lose situation really. If it fails, then we as a sport haven't lost anything.
Shame we couldn't convince them to buy into the a team that won the WCC not so long a go
Hopefully them sharing our training facilities will reduce the cost for us in that area.

| We don't own the training facilities - we rent them. I hope that with Toronto coming on board it doesn't affect our access to them.

Said they're in discussion with us so presume we have a big say of whether they can use it and the arrangement with it. If they come as second tenants it could reduce the rent still (Same way Salfords rent of the stadium was reduced when Sale started using it)

| Some people have no vision.
the same people bang on about "expansion" and how crap we are at it; and how inbred and sporadic our "international" profile is.
Along comes Canada, and wants to give us that particular profile (a team entering the Championship) basically at their expense. Of course, that itself does create many hurdles to overcome but the only thing any of you should be asking is how will we overcome them. Such opportunities, both for the profile of the game and for expansion, are rare as hens' teeth.
All this thread shows me is that many who talk a good game about expansion are in fact scared to death of it. If the Canadians tried it, and it ended up being too problematical - so fscking what? We 100% should go for it, and I'm delighted that it seems the RFL are fully behind making it work.

I don't think people are "scared to death of it" I believe they are frightened of "change" something that takes you away from the norm.
We need to get away from the mentality of a promised land as such with Super League and get back to creating structure for the good of the game.We cant create that structure internally as SL takes precedence.Externally there are no boundaries to the game.
We just need to probably get on board with it and support as much as possible in order to not see chances like this go to waste/fail or the game just stays rooted.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

The problem is though that there are too many flat-cappers who keep trotting out the old "Northern Game for Northern People" rubbish. The very people who complain about Rugby League not getting enough coverage, have a deep suspicion of RU and its' worldwide popularity yet seem to be completely against anything that could help the game grow.
They cannot have it both ways really.

Think there was a discussion a few years ago along these lines.....I said then for both sports survival long term it isn't difficult to see a world with just "Rugby" i.e. no codes

| There was a good interview with those Canadian businessmen last year. I'll try to find it. Obviously they weren't going to put their entire business plan in the media but they came across well, had discussed the problems they could forsee & the solutions. They were very confident they had a market & audience for TGG in Toronto. I'd welcome it.

| No shock to see Lowes throw in the towel. He'd already had one resignation letter knocked back by Green and Ferres. Brian Noble to come in and oversee proceedings until the end of the season with Diskin and Walker under him.

The one thing Jimmy Lowes has never and will never do is "throw in the towel" . Don't judge people by your own cynical standards. When he says he's gone for personal reasons , I believe him.
I hope the club is patient and does not rush into appointing the next coach. Advertise, short list and interview .
I'm confident Diskin can do a good job in the meantime,

| We don't need someone to come in and oversee fro a few months. We need a good coach who will be here for some years who can coach and motivate them and get this decent squad to perform to their best.

| Good luck to the Canadians, and the other version is starting to pick up in the States. However in practice intercontinental travel in league situation is tough on the travelling team, 2 hours to the south of France is one thing ten hours to Toronto another. Plus clearing 2 meters of snow off the pitch is going to need a lot of dedicated supporters.

I'm not stirring anything up, I'm telling you now that the future is bleak, unless someone comes in and rakes everything out at Odsal.
The same faces are still working at the club, having survived failed administration after failed administration.
The new coaching appointment is the biggest decision the club has had to make since 1963/1964.

| Why does anyone humour this Hood idiot? He knows about as much as the average toilet pot, while trying to give off this pathetic air of being "in the know".

| The false PH states the same faces are at the club, who seemingly where the orchestrators of the failures.
Now we know without a doubt that he is an absolute fake, as the sole architect of our failure in the first place was that person he is impersonating, and he is definately not at the club?

Oooh, another bit of insider information!
Or, it could be Rohan Smith, and what could actually be happening is he is currently waiting on a visa and should arrive within about a fortnight (T&A).
Peter Hood - always right on the money!
