Hudson Smith or Michael Worrincy?

Don't recall Hudson Smith apart from the name. Worrincy may be much maligned on here but he did score a few decent tries, some of which were against good sides. That said, he was responsible for quite a few for the other side as well IIRC...

My main memory of Hudson Smith is him missing a tackle that led directly to the "wide to west" try. I also remember whenever he was named in the side the crowd did the collective groan that Worrincy got several years later.

Hudson Smith looked to be a very good signing when he made his debut at Saints at the start of the 2000 season. Sadly it went downhill very quickly from them on.

The difficulty with that is that Hudson was poor in a pretty good side whilst Mick was not brilliant in a somewhat poorer, or at least 'misfiring', one. I think a team of basically good players normally bring out the best in the others around them, whilst a side stuffed with somewhat less capable players probably drags others down to their level. On that basis I'm going for The Warrlord as the better player. But putting my tin hat on........

Worrincy would have been a star in our best sides coming off the bench and scoring tries.

Scott Naylor or Ben Harris........

Naylor. Despite him getting stick from "know nowt" speccies his defence was superb. How we could've done with a defender of his ability these past 4 years. In attack he was a bit slow but was a handful. I rate him above Harris because his defence was better, which is saying something as Harris was a decent defender too.

Marcus Bai or Semi Tadulala..........

I agree, Naylors defence was outstanding, I can't remember Keith Senior ever scoring against us when Naylor was opposite him, something which became regular after Naylor left.

On a slightly humerous note, I remember an oldish fan giving Naylor some stick behind the posts at Wakefield for not being able to catch Paul Sampson after he scored a full length interception against us. Naylor heard the rant and shouted back " You come and catch him then!"

I was more of a fan of Naylor's than Ben Harris - mainly due to him always seeming to stop Newlove and Senior.

He was also a little better offensively than Ben Harris. Although I'd happily take either at present.

In terms of Semi and Marcus, I'd take Marcus Bai, thought he was a great player and very dependable. Semi seemed to have the Platt brain farts about him in my eyes.

Not even close, Hanley by miles. Like comparing TV with Ah Van.

You can't argue with 55 tries scored in a season.


Phil Ford or Gerald Cordle?

George Ambrum or Joe Tamani? Or, one from Graeme Bradley - Glen Tomlinson or Shaun Edwards?

Marcus Bai - He was a more damaging runner and had proved himself in the NRL.

George Ambrum was before my time but Tamani only played a few games didn't he?

Penguin Bradley wins for me for entertainment value, though it would have to be the Bradley of 96-97 rather than the 98 version. In 98 I thought he was too ready to niggle the opposition and hardly played any rugby.

Edwards could have been great for us had he not rubbed several players up the wrong way and got into a spot of bother.

Naylor used to make Newlove look very average too, there weren't many who could do that. Scott was very underrated by many. As pointed out above, Ben was a cracking defender too, but Scott get my vote.

Big Gerry - Scared the hell out of Offiah which always made me laugh. Best Beer Gut in Rugby League too.

Dave Watson or Stuart Spruce

Tamani didn't play overmuch as I remember. I think this one is just pulling names out of a hat to be honest as Ambrum was an absolute star in his time. Not the fastest winger but built like the proverbial brick outbuilding, he tended to run through people with a big 'see ya later' hand off or often just barging people out of his path. Most of his many tries would have left numerous defenders laying on their backsides showing his route to the line. He once ran thirty odd yards to the line with a Wakefield prop(David Jeanes) who was built like a slightly shorter version of Brendan Hill, hanging from his back and I don't think Big George even slowed down. No contest GA wins hands down.

Watson over Spruce for toughness and entertainment value. However I think Spruce was a more reliable character.

Remember Watson's 95m interception at Oldham in the 79th minute to win the game? Then the same season he got sent off versus Leigh at home and we lost. We'd have won with him on the field and had we done so we'd have won the league that year. Swings and roundabouts!

Cordle was v good but Ford was a class better IMO, even if he did join L**ds.

Fairbank over Casey IMO, both similar players but Fairbank played at a higher level for longer.

absolutely. to me his first tackle on Renouf was a significant contribution to that 40 minutes of perfect rugby league at Old Trafford as it destroyed Renouf for the rest of the game and therefore the Wigan offence. It is one of my favourite Bulls moments.
