I'll look through the guide from Laura and try to create a list of jobs that need doing as far as a working group is concerned. If there's enough interest we can move ahead.

OK, we can group the key positions in a working group that need filling into the following "groups":

Admin/executive - Key positions: Chair, Secretary
Finance - Key positions: Treasurer, Fundraising officer
Communication - Key positions: Media spokesperson, Club liason officer

Ideally these key positions should have a deputy as well to share the workload and to stand in when necessary.

Tasks that need to be performed are:

Form working group
Draw up constitution
Establish bank account
Raise funds
Publicise trust: website, leaflets, posters, press
Create membership forms
"Feet on the ground" - putting up posters, handing out leaflets etc.

Obviously the details of these 'tasks' will be fleshed out by the working group, but broadly speaking this is what we're going to need. It's also worth remembering that if people don't have time to spare, just stating an intent to become a member will make the trust more feasible.

If anyone feels that they can help, at any level, the more the merrier. If we can get each key position filled with a deputy and maybe a couple of "foot soldiers", then we should be good to go. Bear in mind that we are NOT appointing the working group at this moment in time, merely establishing that there is enough interest that a working group could be formed at an open meeting.

Personally I'm happy to work somewhere in the admin side of things, and take a position in the working group. I also have an IT background so I'm happy to throw my hat in the ring and help out with a website, but I'll warn you all now that graphics most definitely isn't one of my strong points.

I'll also sort out a mailing list to try to keep all this organised. I've got the addresses of everyone at the meeting, so I'll put you all on the list. Anyone else wants to go on there just PM or Email me.

Not sure if we're meant to be volunteering here just yet but just in case, I've got a background in banking and also relationship management, so am happy to work on either the financial or comms side, whether in a key position or as a foot soldier.

Regrdless of the actual job though, I'm well up for being on the working group, particularly after last night's meeting.

If we volunteer our services, at least we can find out if all the required positions [icould[/i be filled before we throw this out to a wider audience.

I'd definitely be interested in a support type role of any sort. I'm not sure what specific skills I could bring to the table other than not being afraid of a bit of graft. It struck me that some people at the meeting were more used to speaking around a table than myself and possibly have experience through their work or supervisor/delegating tasks to people.

In regard to the next meeting, I'll be unavailable for the first couple of weeks in Nov.

Everybody brings something different to the table, i guess thats the beauty of what we're proposing. Each persons voice is valued the same and i think it showed last night with a good range of people speaking (although not all) and having an opinion, look at Stephen Hawking, he can't say a word nowadays and the guys a genius

He can, it was bloody annoying when I was trying to revise for exams and he'd wander (drive?) about. He badly needs a volume control.

Going forward, if this indeed develops, then the role of the chair becomes crucial in making sure everyone is given opportunity to, is encouraged to, and is helped to feel confident enough to share their thoughts and ideas in meetings.

And I'd say your avatar looked more like me than you, except you have the hair and I sort of struggle in that department...

I'm happy to help out when and where I can. Unfortunately my profession doesn't really bring much to the table in this environment and for that reason I don't think it would be wise to enter one of the committee roles.

Yes the 2 roles are quite different

Legally do two different people have to occupy the roles? That was what I could not get clear from a very quick trawl. I saw the legal requirement for a company secretary but not one for a treasurer?

Edit - I now understand that under the rules of the Warrington trust, the Secretary cannot be a board member and so (since the treasurer would be) they would have to be two different people. Not sure if that is law, but it looks to be part of the "model rules" which I assume supporters' trusts would generally be expected to adopt.

ps Laura did say that they were there to give advice and support to Supporters' Trusts, so I'd urge people not to get worried at all about the legals and stuff like this which would probably fall to only two or three people at most to deal with?
