Cheers for that, that does look pretty positive, like someone actually in the know has tipped off that journo, if the simliar wording appeared in the T&A we'd probably all take it as done.

It makes very little sense to me.

If he only told the club he wasn't coming back in October, then we would have been paying him up to that point, so it can't be wages.

If he told them back in May (or whatever it was), then we wouldn't have to pay him anyway I wouldn't think.

The only thing that makes sense is if it was some sort of year-end bonus, but what the chuff he'd be getting a 200k bonus for at the end of an awful season that he didn't play in half of, I struggle to think.

Can only assume we stopped paying him when it became apparent he was never coming back circa July or that the contract was loaded towards bonuses and image rights payments which were payable each November for the term of the contract.

I've posted before a quite plausible scenario. I think people who know me know I don't normally go in for wild speculation.

There are perfectly good reasons why the unspeakable one could be due money and at the same time totally in accordance with his contractual arrangements, including timing. I doubt many people - including the club? - ever realistically expected a significant transfer fee. What people DID want to see was the unspeakable One suffering financially for screwing us over.

As long as the club gets some benefit from his Toeragship stuffing off, I don't care whether its from another club or out of his own pocket as personal compo for him seeking to breach his contract.

It this turns out as expected. Awful Loses out, his Agent Loses out, the only way the Bulls lose out is in the fact they couldn't get a replacement because of the drawn out issues.
Mick Potter will realise it may be a weakness this coming season but I expect he will actually have a plan B and C as well to help counteract it(Must be rubbing off from Peter Hood with his plans ABCDEF.............. for Odasl)
This should be over by Xmas so now the focus should be on pre season leading up to the Millenium. COYB's

The operation on his shoulder was the end of May/early june. There is no way any club would/could stop someones wages whilst they are recovering from an injury caused playing for that club. He wouldn't really be able to do anything with that shoulder for at least 6/52 and the earliest he would be into reasonable contact training would be another 6/52 after that which would take us up to late Aug/early Sept which is when our season ended which is why there was no point him coming back. Therefore wages are not what is outstanding and it must be other payments built into the contract. Which Adey has already covered a couple of pages back. $AU200k does seem a little steep though...

ATEOTD it's only a claim in a paper. It doesn't make it so.

OTOH we had no need to let him go in the first place. He might be unfit to play, but there's plenty he could have been doing for the cause. Instead of which we let him go back to Aus, in good faith, to aid his recovery as he had nobody over here, poor love.

A cynic might be forgiven for believing though that in fact Awford wanted to be over there on his own business, rather than the Bulls, as it is so much easier to tout yourself around when actually there rather than from 10000 miles away. And that he only failed to admit that he never had any intention of coming back, so as to oblige us to keep paying his wages. I wouldn't know, but a conspiracy theorist could certainly say it fits, given that (with the benefit of hindsight) it does seem pretty clear that the rumour mill in Aus strongly suggested he wasn't coming back ever, and that he was sniffing out another job very early on in the piece. They could, of course, have just made a lucky guess.

I seem to remember Stuart Duffy mentioning at the fans' forum that Orford paid for his surgery himself. Perhaps he is trying to reclaim these expenses somehow after discussing things with Mimis?

which would also tie in with the comments from mimis about us needing to release him before end of november. We all assumed he was referring to us having to pay Orford 2nd year off his contract but I'm guessing that once Orford had been under contract to us for 12 months (which would have been about end off november) then some sort of image rights/signing on payment kicked in. Which is the money they are now saying we owe Orford. Would also explain why this issue off us owing him money was never mentioned earlier.

If I was Peter Hood I would tell Orford he's getting f**k all from the club in terms of money owed to him the scumbag.
