Now I know I am firmly against him but even quite a number of his backers last season seem now to have their own concerns about whether he is up to the task or not. (to varying degrees I accept)

Out of curiosity what do you think he needs to do that he is not doing now (other than signing marquee players with money we don't have)?

1. Show that we are learning from our mistakes (i.e. eradicating the same old errors)
2. Stop moaning about the refs being against him - it smacks of paranoia, desperation and an attempt to deflect the blow away from him.
3. Put on the field a side that looks like it can compete for eight minutes rather than the sixty minutes we seem to only be capable of this season.
4. Give us a winning mentality. Too often last season when we went behind a defeat was inevitable.
5. Show that although our side may not be as good as Leeds for example, that at least he has the tactical nous to help bridge the gap. Nobby had it over McLennan last season, McLennan had it over Anderson, Anderson had it over Nobby, McNamara had it over none of the top sides.


We also need to turn more possession in the opposition half into scores and be less static whilst in attack. Too often players are getting the ball in attacking positions and being caught flat footed.

what use is competing for eight minutes? what are opposition going to be doing for other seventy two ?

Points 1-3 are realistic but 4 and 5 won't happen over night.

assuming for point 3 that mystic meant eighty then surely match fitness is something conditioner should be looking at? we seriously looked to run out of steam in last quarter in a lot of matches last year. Of course macca has an input into training regime but the overall responsibility lies with clogger ( or his replacement). might the new link up with bradford colleges sports dept be helpful in identifying problems in this area?

The specific and overall aspects of the team's fitness to perform to the coaches requirements are entirely his responsibility. The conditoner is answerable to him for not doing so

Now we can't do with this talking sense you do realise McNamara can never be blamed for anything.

Its partly down to the coach. Our inability to compete for 80mins can often be attributed to a poor completion rate on attack and/or being murdered at the ruck. And of course the coach recruits players, some of whom are more naturally fit than others.

Quite possibly. Though other coaches have signed players who fell into the same category eg Anderson, Vagana, Les, Harris. The difference was that from 1997 to 2005 those weaknesses were hidden as we could overpower teams, dominate possession, dominate the rucks etc

However, your point, as relevant as it may or may not be, does a sacking after three years of mediocrity represent a "knee jerk reaction"? Sir Alex Ferguson may be a good example of how things can go right eventually, but he is pretty much a one-off. The stories of failure far outweigh Mr Ferguson's pretty much solitary success story.

McNamara has won squat and has had the opposite effect of ferguson, taking a championship side to mid-table instead of a mid-table team to championships
