More arm drive can mean quicker leg speed
Stride length is also pretty important as Mr Bolt will testify. When I was a kid I asked how anyone could run quicker than 9.94sec, which I think was Calvin Smiths record and was told that we're evolving to be taller and the person would be nearer 7ft tall

Bigger in a well honed sportsman, though I guess not in most of us on this board , means more muscle development. Muscles are sort of necessary for running, even the ones in the in the upper body. As has been pointed out take a look at Usain Bolt and plenty other olympic champion sprinters over the last few years.

That would make more sense. I was basing it on the bigger I get, the slower I get. I'm up there with the snails at the moment. In fact, I reckon they could probably take me in a sprint.

Especially if he has a blinder this weekend.

| Halley wasn't there for some reason. Bradford did not have a representative, like a lot of other clubs.
Only 7 SL clubs were represented (and apologies if I get any of these wrong but the PA system wasn't great):
Hull - Jack (or Jake?) Briscoe
Hull KR - Peter Fox
Castleford - No Idea?
Wakefield - Gareth Potts (Academy winger)
Leeds - Jamel Chisholm (Academy, Scott Donald pulled out with an injury I think)
Warrington - Kevin Penny
Huddersfield - Not sure who?
plus
Craig Calvert - Whitehaven and some lad who played in the 9's tournament for Jamaica

| Whilst it is obviously good for the players involved, surely this event would have more credibility if each SL team sent its fastest first teamer? Or maybe there should be a separate SL's fastest man competition?

The only way that might happen is if they have it in the off season or during pre-season training.
Teams don't want to send first team regulars towards the business end of the season, or even during the early rounds. Can't really blame them, but it does make the competition kind of pointless.

Like Sheriffe or Worrincy would have stood a chance!
As to why Bradford don't compete in the 9s, is it because:
a) McNamara doesn't want any distractions from the march towards the play-offs?
b) Fear of being embarrassed by non-SL teams competing?

Jack Briscoe for Hull - only 17 and signed a full time 4 year contract this week too. He was winning after 50metres but faded in the latter stages. Seems a bit stupid to do the sprint after players have been playing in the games and have fatigued/stiffened up

McNamara was there though, saw him wandering around several times. Had a young lad with him which I assume was his son (wearing a Hull shirt).

You can take the man out of Hull, but you cant take Hull out of the man. Even though he still lives in Hull.

c) Halley was injured and limped around for the last fifteen minutes on Sunday.
I think it was probably C.

Saw him play against Cas in the academy. Fast as hell but the worst positional play I have seen Wheldon Rd since Dwain Chambers.

So the injury of one player prevents you from entering a 9s competition?
Leeds only entered fringe players anyway!
