| Keep him. But he'd have to be mental to want to stay when most of us have no enthusiasm left.

| Any coach who has to pick Vila Halafihi in the centre regardless of wins etc has had the roughest of times! If he is willing to stay I would definitely give him a go on the only provision he can put his own squad in place. Then that is for him to succeed or fall on his own sword. If it is going to be another year of scrimping and scraping someone like Greenwood would be great knows the division now and worked wonders on a shoestring, but my preference if the club is in a position to do it is give Toovey a year to put his own squad in place then see where we are

| What we do need...
1. A coach that wants to be here and can motivate players (a good coach)
2. Players that are tough RL players, that want to play for Bradford and are motivated by said coach
3. Owners that have a clearly laid out vision, a little finance to bring vision to life, and facilitate what the said coach needs, thus motivating the coach.
4. The fans will then be motivated to come and watch the motivated team and coach, the owner will then have more finance and will be motivated invest more in the team.
what doesn't motivate anyone is putting "we are going to win this week" stories in the T & A everyday, when nobody believes it least of all the players on the park.
If Toovey can't get the players on side and doing there job get rid, bring in Glenn Baraclough.

And look where Keighley are now signing all them Bowling players!!!
In all seriousness though wouldn't be a bad shout as an assistant for me. Knows the division and players and has played at a very good level himself.

| As someone who is still rather irked at the way Rohan was treated, I would love to see him given another crack of the whip. Whether he would want to drop down a level, and haul his family half way round the world again only months after going back to Aus, is another matter.
But what do I know? Much to the disagreement of many on here - I thought Lauaki was actually turning a corner and showing some real promise under Rohan by the end of last season, it was just too little too late. I felt he could actually have been a real asset for us this season if he stayed on the path Rohan set him on.

You certainly aren't on your own regarding Smith. I think he had a lot to offer and his knowledge of the game under the NRL would have helped unearth more gems like Moss

| Smith certainly had an eye for a player. His recruitment was a lot better than that experienced under Lowes/Ferres.
However we'll never really know if he was the coach we hoped he was. His side had it's own issues influencing performances like players not being paid.
I'd certainly welcome him back if Toovey left. However I would say that the last thing we need is the upheaval of bringing in another head coach if we can help it.

I agree entirely and I've always been of the opinion that the signing of a [i"high profile coach"[/i was just a Cha-Lo PR stunt.

| I struggle to see why Rohan Smith is so highly thought of. His record with the squad we had wasn't great and in the clubs biggest game in living memory the team folded like a pack of cards rolled over and died.

That 0-20 vs Fev was probably the most disappointing match I've ever been to.
That said he had the side playing better rugby than his predecessor and seemed to have an idea about how to recruit. Like Toovey there were off field distractions and he never got the chance to show what he could do with his own side. I think Smith came over well, he conducted himself impeccably during Admin 3. I think that's why he's well thought of.
Based purely on results though we blew it badly when he had the big chance to show he was up to the job.
What's your thoughts on Toovey Red?

Great player as he was, there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he is what we need at Odsal. He won one championship in Aussie, with the team of stars that he'd played with the previous year, then as the team got too old and fell apart he did nothing to bring in or improve players to take on the mantle. We need a Peter Fox or a John Keir type, not an Aussie superstar - someone who can get players to play above themselves.'"

| I'm not sure that's a very objective view of Toovey's time as coach at Manly.
I agree we need a coach that can get players to play above themselves. Any suggestions? Obvs Kear is now signed up at Wakey.

Well, I'll accept it's not a full blow by blow account of every minute he spent there, (as I'd never heard of him before he came over it was all blagged from the internet, tbh ) but as a thinned down precis, covering the bare essentials, I think it sums up the differences between his job at Manly and his current one here at the Bulls and, in that sense, I feel it is certainly objective, if nothing else.
Now he [imay[/i turn out to be the best coach we've ever had, [iand[/i be chosen for our 'team of the 21st century', and no-one would be more pleased than me if this turned out to be the case, but, and this is the whole point of my original post, I just don't see anything that jumps out from his previous coaching experience to suggest he is the man for our particular set of circumstances.
I hope he's given the owners something more solid about his intentions though, as they definitely need to get something sorted PDQ if he is leaving. Though I suppose it could be him who doesn't know if they want him to stay. Damn all this tight lipped stuff.....

That fans forum that's been coming "next month" for about 6 months. They'll do that thing again where they have a specially invited forum of "random" fans who spent over £200 in the shop, or who are sat in the Wetherspoons in town at midday in their Bulls shirt, already half cut.

Smith doesn't cover himself in glory up to Admin 3. As for Toovey he admitted himself that in any other job he would be gone. He thinks the UK loan system is barmy nothing remotely like it in Aus. He seemed fully committed to the cause just needs a settled squad.

| I agree about the loan system, it's barmy, but it is designed for our unique (British) circumstances.
Without a proper reserve grade, how else would many young players coming out of the academy play in a suitable environment, which is both beneficial to their own development and which also benefits the clubs? From our own, admittedly special, point of view this season we wouldn't have had a squad without the loanees and DRs, we'd have been down to playing all the academy lads, whether they were mature enough or not. Even with the loaned players a few of our 'kids' have been flogged a bit more than is good for them, imo.

(Not actually a serious suggestion, but it is officially law that Brian Noble must be linked to the head coach job every time it comes into question)
