Bradford Northern's support declined rapidly in the 1963 season, attracting a record low crowd of 324 against Barrow. Northern went out of business on 10 December 1963 having played just 13 matches; winning 1 and losing 12, scoring 109 points and conceding 284.

| I think it's disgusting how much help expansion clubs like Bradford and Wakefield have been given whilst older clubs like London are left to struggle on alone in their distant isolation.

| This will be final post on here (I'll still be an ardent reader).
My personal view is that any former directors/shareholders who believed/fell for the detrimental propaganda (that very nearly destroyed this great club) I wouldn't entertain any involvement with them, because these individuals aside from trying to save face, ultimately caused this situation.
To those shareholders who have been innocently caught up/implicated in this terrible, harrowing situation

| You would be most welcome in my eyes to invest and be part of Omar Khan's future plans for this iconic sporting institution, which incidentally will be celebrating it's 150th birthday next year and yes plans are afoot to celebrate Bradford Bulls being the oldest Rugby League in the world.

| My legal advisors have informed me that the whole thread is potentially ageist and we should provide balance by also asking what has happened to all the "young" shareholders?

| Both my husband & I - also my sister bought shares in Bradford Northern when Deryck Fox came to play for us. At the time the Club asked for shares to be purchased so we could have a Big Signing to complement our team. In those days, it was difficult to have new players, our crowds not being so large then... maybe 3000 - 4000. We paid for the shares not expecting any return from them, so don't feel as though we have lost them. The only thing at that time was to improve our team. We must never go back to those days. and must back Francis Cummings and the team (and new buyers) to make sure this never happens again.
There hasn't been a new share issue since those days. The main shareholders held approx. 100,000 ordinary £1 shares out of the total issue of 197,000.
So they held the sway.

No, you'll find that the history is bob on. All you need is to learn how to read it.

This is very interesting. Where did you find it? I'm sure the events of 1963 will be total news to everyone on the forum, or indeed in the City.
But Northern did not go out of business. You forgot to look at the history of 1964, and later years. There you would have found that Northern continued, still very much in business. Under new ownership. Pretty much like now, in fact.

Er, I think you'll find it was the other way round, I replied to what YOU posted. You couldn't have agreed with what I posted, because I hadn't posted. You'd have to wait until I posted something, and then decide if you agreed or disagreed.
Do you specialise in misunderstanding things so you always get them back to front? If so I pity whoever has the job of washing your kecks.

I'm sure someone (af?) posted a while back about a rl historian essentially tracing a continuous history of the club back further than 1895? To the 1860's?
Anyway, on the thread, I'm also surprised we haven't heard much from some of the old key players, I do wonder if that will last and who might get involved further down the line in one form or another.'"
Bradford Northern the History 1863 to 1989 by Nigel Williams (out of print now) the Bradford club was founded by Oates Ingham who owned a company in Thornton. Indeed it can be argued that he founded Rugby League as a sport. But not as we know it??

Thanks for that, shame its out of print, given whats happened since 1989 and indeed this year, I'm sure theres enough material for an updated version!
I've just been reading some of my own bradford books, in particular the images of sport book "Bradford Rugby League, Bradford, Northern and Bulls" complied by Robert Gate. It has some excellent images from all through our history but especially from pre 1900 when artists impressions were printed of the key moments from matches!
I'm glad there is some planning for the 150 anniversary, as Mick says, we should celebrate the long history more. Maybe get 1863 on the shirt somewhere?

| Like jonte I too help to pay for Deryck Fox, and was issued the same £25 worth of shares. As a loyal supporter there is a square foot of Odsal turf out there on the pitch that belongs to me,( the result of another previous financial crisis if I recall). If its possible I would do my bit again and have another £25 worth of shares if it will help the club. Never go to the AGM, never wanted to, never expected a dividend, just a supporter. Yes I have watched with anguish whats gone over these past six months or so, but as a small shareholder I am not going to have much influence, but as someone said on a different post, it would be good to see a small shareholder representative or fans representative, with a seat on any new board.

I've often fancied doing an updated version. Is Nigel Williams still around? I have the original book, it's superb with real attention to detail.

| It is worth its weight in gold. Just to check facts in case of a disagreement about who did what or how many tries or goals scored by an individual. I`ve followed Northern/Bulls since 1962 (was one of the 324, what a claim to fame, can`t be many of us left, we should have a reunion in a telephone box) and just looking at the names in the pages brings back memories of players I`d forgotten about.

Wasn't meaning to sound over the top, just replying to Ferocious Aardwark's question re old shareholders. Many fans also bought shares at that time.
