sounds like the club were in the dark about Orford all along. I wonder what "Strictly confidential" reasons there could have been and these reasons are probably what allowed us to announce herbert?

The one thing that sounds strange is why were the RFL told what his strictly confidential issue was, we released Hall to free up a space for Herbert, unless we hoped we woupdnt need to do that. Does anyone have a guess why we did that?

I rather suspect that the "Strictly Confidential" reasons suddenly appeared when it got to late-October, and the Toerag (and more to the point, the Sack of Rat Droppings) realised the club was not going to blink first and he would otherwise have to come back. And that it was these "Strictly Confidential" reasons that enabled the RFL to issue the apparent concession to allow the Bulls to sign Herbert but hang fire on registration? I also suspect these "Strictly Confidential" reasons - whether factual, or just highly convenient and will now mysteriously disappear (who knows?) - were maybe the one means by which Toerag could get out of his contract without the Club being able to hammer him for compensation. A precis of the wording certainly might suggest that?

I don't think it serves much useful purpose to speculate on what exactly these "Strictly Confidential" reasons were - anyone involved in employment law and HR will doubtless make some guesses, maybe close - the main thing is we have closure at last and can move on. And put this last chapter of a terrible year firmly behind us.

I would guess that the release of Hall, in reality, had absolutely nothing to do with registering Herbert. More to do with getting someone on a high wage and a quota spot, who didn't really bring much to the team, out of the squad.

It just fell convenient at the time and made sure we could officially register Herbert a couple of weeks earlier than planned. He was already training and could have played in the friendly anyway as a triallist presumably.

As far as Orful goes, see ya later, don't let the door hit you in the @rse on the way out. Let's hope for Canberra's sake, he treats them with more professionalism than he has apparently treated us.

Have you ever considered the possiblility that the club were not aware? That Orford didn't tell them the whole truth? He has not come out looking like a paragon of virtue now has he?

Even if the club we not aware, which I accept could be the case, do they really think too many people will read the comments of Hood (comments which are practically kissing Orford) and just wipe their hands of it and simply move on as they seem to believe?

No doubt it is the usual "confidentiality clause" that is a poison in sport at the moment. We will find out the truth when Orford has a book to sell I reckon.

And yes, I have a theory. I suspect at least one other person on here does too, since he shared that theory with me a week or two ago. But there is no way I am going to share that theory on a public forum, given the nature of it and the clear sensitivity of the circumstances as is evidenced by what PH and Connor say. Seems to me its time to move on.

If I am on the right lines (and I do not know, I am only making educated deductions) then PH has done the only thing he can do, and said pretty well the only thing he can say. And, don't forget, "strictly confidential" cuts both ways. It seems pretty clear (to me at least) that a Compromise Agreement must have been entered into (Connor hinted at that the other day anyway) and these invariably include confidentiality clauses. Indeed, they can often include the wording that the parties are allowed to use in any public statements. I've drawn up enough of the damn things in my time, and been involved in terminating enough people, to have some understanding of how it works. So anyone berating PH for not disclosing the circumstances is again too far removed from reality, I would suggest.

And I would put money on Toerag having come up with a tale, probably just before the deadline for his return, that changed the nature of the issue. Doubtless something new to the club - it would have to be, when you think about it. Whether that tale held water (or, more to the point, it might to others), and whether in turn that led to the circumstances of his release - well we have to go back to the theories again, I guess. Until the autobiographies come out, anyway.
