| Quote ="Bulliac"Ahhh, JP. What a man he was, I remember him when he was winning man of steel and players player of the year etc.'"
I don't buy this argument that JP is somehow a lesser player at Leeds. There might be an argument if he actually played in a similar role at both clubs, but he didn't. IIRC he won his Man of Steel trophy at Bradford playing as a destructive wide-running second row with a handy off load, yet when he signed for Leeds he was already making the transition to being an out and out prop forward (causing much debate over his best position on substandard). Many would argue that the main reason Leeds have won three titles in a row was because of JP - not doing the spectacular stuff he did at Bradford, but for his yardage, workrate in attack and defence, and for his never say die attitude. IMO for these reasons Leeds were able to sneak a victory against Wigan in the cup recently, not due to any notion of it being 'lucky Leeds' again as some on here have argued. Whilst we're not as reliant on him as our main forward this season with the likes of Bailey pulling their weight there is no doubt that JP gives us the edge in big games. Obviously it is not just about him but he's certainly the most consistent of our star players IMO (Sinfield, McGuire, Webb, Senior etc all more prone to having off-days).
Bulls fans should surely take some pride (or not in the case of certain die-hard anti Leeds people) in the fact that much of our success has been based on a Bradford product...

Nathan Graham, if playing today, would probably be our no.2 full back after Brett Kearney. All the negatives stem from one match, where most of the mistakes which got dumped on him were actually far from his alone, in fact, he was far from the worst offender that day.

No they dont. Nathan couldn't catch a cold. Saints knew this before the game because of the dropped balls leading up to the final, thats why Bobbie called it 'the Nathan'.
If NG could catch, like a FB should be able to then we'd have probs won the game that day.

I took that comment to reflect the current situation (injuries, money issues etc) at Bradford rather than implying that he is just as good now (but different), which would have contradicted the first part of your post. If that makes any sense.

I'd have him back with a fully fit squad.
JP was at the point where he was possibly losing the edge to his pace but was putting on a bit of bulk and gaining experience, at the point where his next logical step was to prop rather than second row. Only an idiot would suggest that his play in that position has been less than superb. The two things which P me off are 1 (sorry, but from a Bulls' perspective) he's doing it at Leeds and 2 that the only reason he left was because he was bad mouthed by the former chairman who in exactly that many words told him to F off when he asked for a raise(from the book, No White Flag by Jamie Peacock). Thanks Chris.

peacock isn't the only reason why Leeds have set the highest level of standards in sl but our unpresidented success would not have been possible without him! He is god like! Any suggestion he is passed it or is a spent force is simply laughable. He may well be a different player from the one he was at Bradford but just as awesome a machine as a prop but with the extra passion of playing for the club he has been a life long fan of!

Man of Steel at Bradford eclipses a "World" award from a magazine that no-ones heard of in the other half of the Rugby league world
Quote ="sgtwilko" Leeds have set the highest level of standards in SL'"
That's open to debate. The trophy haul is less than Bradford due to you not winning as many Cups or WCC in that era and Saints have won more than both. BTW until you can reach and win both finals in the same season and go on to hold all four trophies at once it's arguable that Leeds haven't equalled either.

I'll agree with that

is it true that winning the gf is now the mark of a champion side?
it's also very hard to win a gf
can we all agree on this so far?
now to the nitty gritty
as they saying goes "winning a gf is hard, but retaining it is even harder!
can we all agree on this?
at this point can all the bulls fans stop posting on this topic as you have won the gf on 3 separate occasions but sadly could never back this feat up the following season!
if any saints fans are over here and want to put their 2 penneth in,then feel free as your side were the first to win "back to back" gf's
but sadly you must now refrain from posting on this topic as you could not manage a "back to back to back" gf wins,
anyone who deems 3 gf wins in succession doesn't mean that they're the best sl side in history are wrong imo
but please come back and tell me so when some side has actually beaten this record

think there will be a fair few disappointed people on here if thats true. Personally think brian mac is our best option out of the uk names being bandied around. lowes as assistant is maybe as much for PR purposes as actual coaching reasons I'd suggest. Seems likely that hudds have settled for baloo for there next head coach and rumour about sts and justin morgan wont go away so maybe theres not that much interest in uk positions from aussies given weaker pound.
one thing that immediately springs to mind is that brian mac has a decent record of working on a tight budget and bringing youth through so may be a good fit for us. Also, given our lack of quota spots next year if we retain menzies, He's got a good knowledge of uk players which will be needed for any recruitment.

| I know the Bulls never would, but once we make an appointment it would be interesting to see who else applied!
We could certainly have done without two other English SL clubs also searching for a new coach as well!

| A combination of the collapse of Sterling against the Aussie and the Kiwi, albeit slightly redressed in the last couple of weeks, and a seriously-worsening UK personal tax environment and closing of avoidance devices, makes the UK a far less attractive proposition for Aussies and Kiwis to come and work here than it did only 18 months ago.

| Warrington, as always, exists in a parallel universe where exchange rates, tax rates, pay rates are of no consequence since the answer is always "yes - we can". Silly boy, everyone knows that.

Yeah you see for me it's still not winning both finals in the same season.
I suppose it's a bit like comparing David Ike to Jesus. Yes winning three in a row is a massive achievement and David Ike is very popular in America and sells a lot of books. But he'll never quite match Jesus in the whole son of God thing.
