Correct. The OED favours the "z" form.

It`s common in books, though I don`t actually know of any newspapers using the American format and tbh I`m surprised the T & A have. Having said that the T & A keep sticking inappropriate hyphens in the middle of words too, so maybe we shouldn`nt be too surprised. Plus it might be that they haven`t changed their spellchecker from American to English.......
I`m not keen myself. My eyes are drawn to spelling errors like moths to a lamp and I find it difficult to read fluently when pages are littered with zeds where there really ought to be esses. Damn Yankees....................RIP the English lanuage

Actually, I blame the Microsoft spell-checker for making us [ithink[/i that only "s" is correct in UK English. Both forms, as I mentioned above, are perfectly good, and the Oxford Dictionary leans towards the "z". This is from someone whose typing fingers would not allow him to Americanise (or Americanize) words such as "colour"!

tbh I wouldnt expect us to put many of the first team in for that game and as such dont think it'll be that attractive a game for fans. While it may be leeds last friendly its our first proper one, if you ignore the boxing day one which tends to be a bit less structured. As such while we may give some of the fringe first teamers a runout I wouldnt expect the main first teamers to be thrown in until the week after against dewsbury. Not saying thats the right or wrong way to do it, just seems to be strategy macca has followed last few years.

I can see the sense in that, though the rugby playing fraternity can be quite close and I`d probably expect many in our first team squad to want to support a fellow pros benefit game. It would have been better if the Rhinos and HKR games had been the last two before the start of the season.

other aspect is, it looks like this friendly is part of the harris settlement, with all the gate going to leeds and as such dont see why we should be particularly bothered about supporting it

It goes back to schooldays too, to be fair. Certainly back in the fifties and sixties when I was at school a `z` in the wrong place would have brought a rap over the knuckles! Neither did this current split between books and newspapers exist: all used `s`.
I do wonder about the Oxford dictionary. Is it American owned these days? I think there must be a conspiracy . Certainly back in the fifties/sixties I don`t think any English dictionary would have condoned the `z`.
