| Quote ="Wes Hooligan"Under Sharp, Huddersfield went from 10th to 5th in the league and average crowds doubled. It's hardly comparable at all.'"
So McNamara's even worse than some on here think.

| I appreciate that there are a number of people on here who want McNamara out and I understand the reasons why but am I to understand that he`s now being rapped for trying to be upbeat? Would you actually be happy if he gave interviews to the press saying "WE`RE DOOMED, WE`RE DOOMED". That would really impress folks wouldn`t it? Team morale would go up no end. Sponsors would come flocking to the door. It would be one advantage after the other....................
I know some would say that was just being honest but do come on, when people get their hooks in he just can`t do right for doing wrong.

The problem is that this kind of comment is being made week in and week out yet Mr McNamara is incapable of understanding that actions speak louder than words.

He has to speak to the press. There's only so much he can say. If you don't like reading it, don't.

I'd love to see how some of the übercritics on here would fare if THEY had to face or engage with the press day in day out? I've managed to avoid it for most of my life, but on those rare occasions where I could not avoid it, its not been the easiest of experiences.
In fact, Bulliac may remember an occasion - it was the first match with Macca as head coach, at the HJ, and the sky cameras came up the terrace and collared he and I for comments. To my shame, having been caught on the hop I was too scared to talk in case I said the wrong thing (I was stood next to the aisle so I was nearest) and pushed them straight onto Bulliac - who spoke excellently, btw, and put me to shame and rightly so ).
Apart from me being a coward and dumping on Bulliac, that little event made me realise just how tricky it must be getting caught on the hop by the cameras. With some warning and time to think about what I am going to say, I'm OK; but without warning, I flap. Yet that surprises folk who know me who assume that, cos I can talk for England, I'd be fine! I think Bullseye (for example) will be very good at it, but I suspect many others would either react as I did or would say things that afterwards they wished they had not?
Maybe worth bearing in mind when seeing how people who we ASSUME are more comfortable handling the media sometimes react?

My mum did quite the opposite of you.
We took her to the WCC a few years back, to which she ran up to the sky camera who at the time were interviewing fans outside of the stadium.
She was wearing a wooly hat and about 6 layers of clothes and looked like she was on day release, and went on to embaress herself by going right up to the camera and screaming 'woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo'. She hasn't been since.

Then say that as a club we are going to regroup and address our problems then in the second half of the season will try and be more consistent and hopefully try and regain the confidence of the supporters.

I`d guess that he knows perfectly well that actions speak louder than words but newspaper reporters expect words and as AF points out it`s probably in his contract to do media work.
Like I said before, and I apologise for repeating myself, I can understand anyone`s frustrations with the way things are but bagging a bloke for trying to be upbeat is a bit much.

So would you have his press comments be as depressing and melancholy and obsessed with a single issue as your comments come across on here? How in your judgment would that help motivate either the team or the fans?
Red made a pretty good stab (IMO) at the gist of what he thought Macca should have said - although I think he'd have been slayed for being defeatist by the same people on here had he used "try" and "hopefully".
What would YOU have said?

What difference does [ithat[/i make? (getting back to The Smiths theme from the other day.)
The man is paid to coach an RL side and perhaps speak with the media. But a bit of honesty would not really go amiss once in a while would it not?
The fact of the matter is that the fans of BBRLFC are a damn sight more intelligent than the coach seems to think if he honestly expects us to swallow this latest effort at appeasing us.
For too long, according to McNamara we have "not been where he wants us to be" yet he still shows no signs of sorting it out, despite his weekly pledges that we will turn it around.
As for motivating the fans? Are you being serious? When we read the comments made from the "cult hero" Mr M Worrincy last week then WTF are we supposed to think? We take it easy against sides when we are pretty damn appalling ourselves? Why should people turn up and make the effort to watch the side when the players themselves seem pretty nonplussed with the whole idea?
And again, getting back to the Smiths and the prophetic words of Mr Morrissey and Marr, The Joke Isn't Funny Anymore.

Er, it would give your criticism some validity. You can't ask someone to change their behaviour without having some idea of what the new behaviour should be.

Quite a lot actually.
It just suggests you are an empty vessel making a lot of noise, does it not?
All you seem capable of doing is incessantly criticising - as has been pointed out repeatedly.
When I asked Red - in all sincerity - how he would have handled it, we got a sensible and reasoned answer - as we would have expected. When I asked YOU the same question, all we got was that unhelpful broken-record diatribe. Again, as we would have expected.
Maybe when you start engaging in CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, like Red and others do on here, people will take you more seriously.

Which translates as: I've lost the argument (again) so I'll resort to personal insults. Teddy out of cot when someone takes a bit of a stand against your incessant corrosive criticism?
I've not bothered responding to you for a while, but watched with some dismay when you could not wait to get on here after the latest debacle on Friday night and start firing off - even though you had not seen the game or (as far as I could tell) heard from people who had. I did not post on here after the game - because (like you) I did not go but - unlike you - I preferred to wait to hear the opinions of those who HAD.
So I'll say again: maybe when you start engaging in CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, people will take you more seriously.

Actually, not at all. I just wonder why it is that you think that you are appointed on here to tell people what to say?
As for CONSTRUCTIVE (note the capital letters?!) criticism? TBH, it makes no odds anymore. For long enough I have said the same about McNamara and had people like you telling me that I either.....
a. had got it wrong, or
b. was out of order.
TBH, there may, at times, been a case for option (b) but certainly there seems little to suggest that I was far out of the picture in regards to (a).
Your relentless defence is admirable against my point about the coach but it is just a shame that it all seems pretty futile now.
McNamara is an utter dud and he has lost the support of most of the users on this board now. The sooner he is removed from his position the better. Constructive or not, I do not really care, it is how I see it.

ME and Adey go hammer and tongs again
I'm bored of you two having the same argument, each are entitled to your opinion...one of you please take the moral high ground and stop taking the bait.
I agree with ME in that I think McNamara's days are numbered and the poll of people on here seems to support that conclusion, I've seen people defend McNamara with issues such as lack of cash, blaming the players e.t.c
At the end of the day you make the best out of what you've got and I don't think he's doing that, he's admitted he doesn't know what's going wrong and compared to teams with potentially around the same budgets and some would argue lesser playing squads we are massively under performing.
I find it hard to understand how some still cling to the hope he can turn it around after watching us slide to where we are now in the 3 or so years he's been in charge. I remember when he took over and the rugby we played, I was excited that we actually had started to run the ball as opposed to what we did under noble.
In regards to the press comments, for me he's not coming over well..there was the infamous y interview on TV and he/the team consistently coming out with the same statements week in week out. Do i know what he should say, how about we know we've underachieved but we're working hard to understand why and get back on track. We've let the fans down and that's what hurts the most, but stay with us and with your backing we'll be up there fighting soon. Is that what we all need, I don't know but i do know he'll be given some sort of media training and he needs to start to use it.
I really did wish he could turn it around but at some point you need to turn round and admit this isn't working and a fresh start is needed, I know we've promoted from within over the last 3 or so times but lets get some fresh ideas into the club.
Perhaps SM given the time could turn it around, perhaps he deserve(d/s) the title of best young british coach but on current form but something needs to be done to show the fans that they are trying to turn the tanker round, unfortunately the quickest way is the sack the coach...question is it the best, in my opinion on this occasion I'm afraid it is.
