| I would actively seek out Brian McDermott. He is one of the brightest coaches in super league and has experience of the club from the clubs best years.

| I think the club should try get Robbie Paul back to the club somehow as part of the backroom staff. His passion for the club to suceed would be second to none.

| There is no reason at all to suppose that any of McDermott, Lowes or Harrison would be any better than what we have. None of them have "done" anything and it would be change for change's sake.
If you were looking for a replacement coach then the only place to look would be Australia. Why? Because such a person would have a good chance of knowing and being able to attract some highly promising young halfbacks which is something we ain't gonna get this side of the equator.
BTW one chap who we have missed out on is our very own former halfback Ivan Henjak, who is of course now top man at Brisbane. Now that's the sort of contacts that get you great players you've never heard of.

Er...hardly! Quite the opposite, in fact.
[FA mode...
I replied to the first point you made by asking you for YOUR ideas, and giving one of my own (the only one I can think of). After all, you were replying to MY post where I was pointing out some inconvenient truths. You have not put any suggestions forward at all for generating the additional funds needed for a change of coaching staff.
Your second paragraph, leaving aside the unnecessary (IMO) "special needs" insult, was simply to return to the "sack Macca and all our problems are over" line - again without suggesting how we could afford to do that.
A precis of your third paragraph, which represented about two thirds of your post and NOT "one tiny little detail" (come ON now!) is that families won't come cos kids find losing "boring". OK, I'm sure you meant to say "losing regularly" but even so, that just reinforces the "you are all glory supporters" argument that we hear from those who do not wish us well. But it also reinforces the point I have been making - the Catch 22
And for God's sake, if anyone can see a way out of this Catch-22 that does NOT require a load of cash up-front lets hear it, cos I'm right out of ideas!

Hardly. The argument is irrefutable, unfortunately. Had that been Hudds today not Hull, the stadium would have been less than 1/3 full.

| I'd just like to say from a Rhino, I hope you get the players to pull their fingers out soon. SL is a better place with a fully fit and competitive Bulls.
I won't attempt to offer any suggestions regarding improving the current situation, other than to say you all need to rally round the club whilst it sorts itself out. If the revenue drops then so does the quality of the employees, its the same in any business.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

Whilst I agree with you, anyone you could afford from Aus wont have "done anything" on the coaching front.

| One final point, what have you done with the money you were going to pay Greg Bird? I'm guessing that was a pretty sizeable sum, and could be put to very good use with a little thought....

| Here we go again! when things do not go according to expectations. shoot someone preferably the coach as he's the one open to influence. Well I dont buy it, When stuff starts to go tits up it does not take a lot of effort to spiral downwards. however to first arrest the decline and then to improve takes superhuman effort. The team are not putting in the effort, in training or on the pitch, too many players think they are owed an easier ride. so the coaching staff have to concentrate on the lesser known "stars". it's not the done thing to sack stars on big bucks it would take braver men financially than Hood or Macca to do that. we may be in the doldrums for a season or two ( have I said this before?). But we're bigger than the sack em and hang em out to dry clubs. We have to get behind the club, beleive in our younger playing staff and the current coaches it's not their training schedules that are to blame but the players reluctance to give 100%. Have faith and keep your powder dry. they wont be any miracles or quick fixes no matter who's in charge next season. Anyway we wont be relegated yet

That's not what I'm talking about, though. We've done well as have others with rookie Aus coaches (Matty Elliott, anyone?) and who was his young assistant at Bradford? It is not so much the proven coaching ability that I was talking about as Australian player knowledge and contacts, and I mentioned in only in context that we couldn't afford any of the top Aus halfbacks either who aren't in a Bird-like situation. These guys know players that English coaches can't know. I remember us bringing in people almost unknown over here like Danny Peacock and Jeremy Donougher who were outstanding successes (not youngsters but you see my point) who we would never have got except because of the Aus connection.
We can bring in as many of our youngsters as we like, and I hope we do, but we do look as if this season we are at sixes and sevens at 6 and 7 and the 'signing' of Bird suggests we know it too. I'd bet some of Iestyn's biggest past detractors would pay to have him back in the team just now. As Joni Mitchell sang, you don't know what you've got till it's gone.
Still, if we don't get anybody, today was a huge improvement attack-wise on what we've done in the previous 3 games, and people's form can improve. Jeffries was considerably improved, and it is only a short time ago that Deacon was playing very well for us so maybe he's just in a bad patch and maybe he'll get back to somewhere near the form which has served us so well over the years.

| Difficult situation but the licence system does not lend it to quick hiring and firing.
Millward offers considerably more than McNamara but on rebuilding I don't think he has a great record of that.
I think you need to looklong term, but look beyong Macca. I would also probably avoid Lowes or Harrison.
Would probably go Brian McDermott if he would come.

| I think we should sack Mac as soon as possible and try the innovative stance of coaching by commitee. I am sure that there are enough know it all experts on here who could pool their talents and experience to pull the club out of the $hit we are in.

Our mid 90's revival was sparked by selling our best player for a large sum and bringing in a new coach with the ability to make inspirational signings.
Wonder what price would we get for Sam Burgess?

Probably what we got for Fielden? And where did that money go? (I guess other than in the pockets of Leeds Rugby and the lawyers...?)

| There would be an almighty scramble, Leeds, Wigan, Saints and Warrington would all be interested. I'd bet you would easily clear £250k.
I don't think this would be the answer though, you would be better off keeping him and other younger players and ditching the more experienced average or non performers. Over the next two or three years you must have a few well paid loafers (Solomona etc) coming off contract, just replace them with harder working hungrier (lol) players as they come up and you will get back to where you were a few years ago.
ps, am I right in saying that the Bulls dropped their youth system for a while some years ago? Maybe this is paying back a bit now? If I imagined the whole thing just pretend I never raised it.
pps, you should seriously look at getting shut of Michael Platt, he's a total liability.
