| Quote ="Bulliac"Oh, dead right! I know WE (that is us fans) are hoping for a half, but the club announcements, particularly the one from Lynchy saying how good it was NOT to have any big name signings, seem to suggest the club has other ideas.
If there is to be one more 'biggy' then the sooner the better, so as to help the push towards 10K.'"
A big name might generate a decent buzz but I'd rather the club spent the salary cap on 3 decent players rather than a large outlay on a "superstar"
The club did say at the fans forum that as far as they were concerned Orford would be a Bull for 2011 and had asked his agent to release a statement to that effect to the Aussie press. He has now done it (I say now as it's only now come out, he may have released it awhile a go but it wasn't considered a decent enough angle to report on)

Don't believe everything you read in the paper.
Quote ="Highlander"I don't really have sources that I ask for stuff. In my job, I talk to people who are bulls fans, some of whom work for or are subcontracted to the bulls - all mainly at "ground " level. They volunteer stuff - this was one of the more interesting ones.'"
Don't believe everything you're told.
Quote ="Highlander"Totally OTT. And also wrong. Always good to have a bit of balance. When you have had a run of being "right" , getting something wrong just lets a bit of air out of an overblown ego - levels things off a bit. When I prefixed my post with " I have been told" - that was the truth. I dislike being called a liar as much as most people do.'"
I didn't call you a liar. If you'd have read it as intended, you'd have seen that I actually meant the people you'd spoken to had spun you good.

They can't have looked into signing him too much if they think he only has one year left to run on his contract!

| get rid of him.. if he doesnt want to play for us then get rid. if he came back he wouldnt put 100% in. Id rather we use his money to get a good scrum half what will be LOYAL and what will HONOUR his contract. Its a joke

| Matt Orford would have been a leading contender for man of steel if he stayed fit. there's no question that he can "cut it" in this league.

| Question: If no NRL club is prepared to pay the transfer fee we are demanding, and Orford still doesn't return as hinted in the T&A article, do we still have to pay his wages and count him towards the cap and overseas quota?

If he does not turn up for duty, he is absent without leave and doubtless there would be no contractual or legal requirement to pay him? Same as any other employee. Presumably we invoke the disciplinary process and sack him, which would deal with the employment law issues. There would then be the question of pursuing him for damages. Or maybe the NRL club who recruits him despite us making it clear that we will suffer financial loss if they do without us receiving compensation? Rather like a certain Harrisgate in reverse, in fact - and[i re Mainstream Developments [/ishould be in our favour since we would presumably argue the NRL club induced the player to breach his contract [iand[/i with intent to cause us financial harm?

They have been in the frame for a while now I think, links in with the report/claimed inside knowledge I posted a few pages/days back.
Too much smoke for there not to be something in this one IMHO.
Just wish we had closure to it, might need to wait until the aussie playoffs finish first...

No question about him being able to "cut it" on the field of play but if he can't settle in England he can't cut it in Super League is what I'm trying to say. If he can't survive living and plying his trade in this country that makes him a failure.

If Judge666 is right and you're serious (though your smilie suggests otherwise), would that be Leuleuai, or the return of the prodigal?
With Leuleuai and (presumably) Kearney in the halves, we'd have plenty of zip but precious little craft (the polar opposite of the Harris / Deacon era).
If it were to be Deacon, we'd have balance, but a relative lack of quality. I just hope we could talk Paramatta (or whomever) out of a top quality player in some position as part of any Orford deal.

| If Deacs comes back so will the georgesons. This board hasn't been the same without them.
Tigertot will even be able to use his old avatar. It'll be like old times!

Whilst Deacon would be an improvement on some of names we've been linked with, I seriously hope we arent considering this. Would be a PR disaster. Personally I'd much rather we gambled on Southernwood and Addy sharing the role than take what would be widely seen as a step backwards.

I assume you're basing this on British law Adey, but how does this work in Australia where I assume the defendant would be based? I guess there will be an awful lot of general similarities between the two countries but maybe not all specifics.
