Read the quotes alone. What SM says is pretty much nothing, certainly nothing extraordinary. Just another 'Remind T&A readers that the Bulls exist' article.

I also posted on that thread who we've let go each year since 2004 but I cant be arrisd to repeat it. Point is on the outs, we've had bigger turnovers and lower turnovers but as has been said, its the decreasing quality year on year thats been the problem, and its something McNamara has yet to turn around IMO.

| He is right though. A clearout is exactly what we needed. Starting with the coaching staff.
You know, the guy has a bloody cheek. He seems to blame everyone from dodgy refs, his assistants to the very players that HE bought and had so much faith in, yet he still continues to steal a living from the club.

| I think they have to try to come out and turn what's happened and what we're going through in terms of departures into a positive message.
I guess there trying to build for next season and that probably includes expectations of the fans, I guess there dammed if they don't say something and dammed if they do.

I think that`s a fair summing up, to be honest. I`d doubt that this was in any way a club initiated press release, it`s more likely that the T&A feel they ought to have the odd Bulls` related story in the paper, however banal, just to keep sales up. I guess that asking Macca about the final and sticking the extra bit on the end serves the purpose. Having been asked the coach has little alternative but to seek the positives.

| Its interesting that Wayne Bennett said an assistant coach needs to do the job for 7 years before he is ready to step up to Head Coach. Which means that Macca has had to do much of his learning in the Hot seat and at times its showed but the same goes for his staff especially Basil and Lee who also have had to endure a steeper learning curve as well. Hindsight says Macca should have got in a more experienced assistant to help him. but its all down to circumstances and all down to what ifs, why's and whererfores, but it doesn't matter its done and dusted now. I'm sure that neither Macca or Peter Hood realised how bumpy this particular cycle in the Bulls development was going to be. Next season should start to see an upturn in results (I say that with fingers and toes x'd) My main concern is in the Captaincy there were times last season we lost matchs not because we were the worst team but because of a lack of leadership on the field . If by keeping Deacs Captain it means he starts then Macca is taking loyalty to a player (whom all Bulls fans are grateful to for his sevice to the Club) to far cause without it Deacs doesn't merit a place in the 17 thes days to my way of thinking. Thats an interesting one for a Winter thread to debate

| I'd give the captaincy to Lynch. He's a player who leads from the front and gives 100% every game

I'd go with Langley tbh.

Langley's normally on longer than Lynch and MacNamara has previously said he sees Langley as captain material.
I'd pick him let Deacon concentrate solely on his game with Menzies vice captain.

| I`ve never really thought of Deacs as being the sort of guy who could `do` being skipper to be honest, even though he`s one of the bravest players you could wish to meet and definitely sets a superb example with his commitment, he`s always seems a bit too shy.
Club captain, definitely; pressing flesh, meeting the sponsors and representing the club etc his clean cut and all round decent bloke image seem perfect for that kind of thing, but on field I`d go for some one with a bit of `devil`, a Jimmy Lowes type (or at least the nearest we have to it), someone who can give a rousing speech on field. Do we actually have that sort of player now Morro has gone?

We need a skipper who can deliver the rousing speech but who also has the respect of the the rest of the team. Other than Deacs only Lynch, Menzies and Langley spring to mind. The rest haven't achieved much in the game.

| Langley looks the part for me. He's a super workhorse in the same mould as Peacock and you'll never ever find him being lazy. Perfect show of leading by example.
Let's also not forget that Langley captained the England Academy side to victory over the Aussie Schoolboys a few years back too, so he's got form.

| Whilst I rate Lynch very highly and agree to some extent that you need a captain that leads by example, he's not "vocal" enough for mine (for want of a better word). We need someone that can boss the team about and assist with on-field organisation, someone of Sinfield or Bird ilk IMO.
Langley would appear the closest we have, I'd also back his nomination for captain.
