| You can add in to his faults that he is a biter. During the Quins/Wakey game(the one he got kicked out of the Wakey for drinking) he bit Chad Randell on the arm!!
Not only have you got a fat lazy player youve also got a coward-Its a pity he hasn't followed Smith the other biter into Union.

| Quote ="Adeybull"What I will NOT do is get on a player's back until I've seen him out in a Bulls shirt a few times and seen whether he deserves either the shirt or the shîte. Maybe one or two others could do worse than do likewise?'"
Why?
Sculthorpe has been p!ss poor all his career. He is a one trick pony with his Solomona-esque offloads and is generally an ill-disciplined waste of time.
Better coaches than McNamara have failed to change this and at 30 he is unlikely now to be able to change.
People know what they are getting with Sculthorpe, hence the level of vitriol this signing will cause.
Or do you think that by pulling on a Bulls shirt next season he can suddenly turn into a top drawer player that he has been unable to do at any time before in his career?

| Dire.
Unbelievable.
Is this it then? This is the extent of out ambitions now. A player with an assault conviction not wanted by any other club and a useless waste of space with disciplinary issues not wanted by any other club.
I'm overjoyed obviously.
So would someone at the Bulls like to inform us where the £200K has gone? I guess we will never know.

Because like it or not he is now our player?
I think the very least 'supporters' can now do is just give him a chance to do a job for us. He won't replace Sam Burgess not even close but he isn't a NL standard either. I think it is fair to say that very very few fans are 'impressed' by this signing but at least try to understand why we may have signed him.

So there we have it, then. The definitive assessment.
I admitted to being distinctly underwhelmed and a bit puzzled by the signing. However, I took maybe a little heart from discovering that not everyone shares your view. These guys from the VT, for example:
Quote ="Saddened!"Danny Sculthorpe is a fine player when he's on form. His fitness is a concern but you cannot question his talent.'"
Quote ="Eric_Cartman_is_a_saint"Have a lot of time for Danny Sculthorpe. Playing rugby league with the illness he has must make it really difficult but he always gives his all.'"
Quote ="Marsdengiant"he was a decent 5th/6th string prop at the Giants and a good squad member....but not a like for like replacement for Burgess.'" [i(only a fool would assume he was, and the club has certainly not said he is nor did MJ imply that)[/i
Quote ="Cecil B"Was a great player for Cas in our 2006 season (when we had to beat Wakey in final match to avoid relegation - and didn't!). Only problem was he missed about 8 games due to a broken hand/wrist/thumb. I've no doubt that had he not missed those games we'd have gained enough points not to have to worry about the result of that final game.
As has been said elsewhere, he does seem to suffer from a number of injuries. But when he's fully fit he's one of the most creative props currently playing the game.'"
Quote ="Durham Giant"...I have a great deal of admiration for him to overcome a serious illness and to continue to compete at the highest level. he is also a skilful player who is fairly unique among British props.'"
Quote ="Drachen Feuer"Sculthorpe had a couple pretty good seasons at Wigan, if he can recreate that form, he'll be ok for Bradford IMO'"
Shame that those guys don't know as much as you do, so their opinions may be safely discounted.

People are entitled to there opinion (even me Adey!) and my opinion is that Danny Sculthorpe is a terrible signing who will do nothing to improve our side whatsoever. Maybe he will prove me wrong?

Not quite, don't think anyone is saying that, but maybe, whatever we all think we can support a player who pulls on our shirt and then judge him on the performances and effort he puts in or not whilst wearing our shirt?
As I've said, I'm underwhelmed to say the least. but I'm going to see how he goes in our squad wearing our shirt before I disregard him as a failure, I hope he proves a lot of people wrong.
Each to their own mind, and I suspect peoples views we're all entitled to express will stay where they are today until we see him and the new squad play......
...could be a long off season.

A bit of balance never does any harm, wouldn't you say? And indeed, that was why I included the post you referred to - in the interests of balance. I can understand you being puzzled though since the concept of balance is probably a bit new to you.

Your second point - indeed. But my post was about fans' reactions to Danny Sculthorpe the player. Not about whether the club could or should have made a "better" signing.

| It does seriously look like now that we are doing things on the cheap contrary to what we've been told. Do the club expect these signings to attract back the floating fans.

I'm not saying it will. I think it is pretty clear what the overall feeling is regarding this signing though perhaps in varying degrees. I just hope that now though that we do not have a full off season of people bagging him before he's given a shot at the Bulls. At his stage of his career he isn't going to improve his skills but he may well 'fit' at the Bulls and do an decent job for the money we're paying him.

Glad it has cheered you up, cos it hasn't cheered me up dramatically...
Except my point, since maybe you left that behind on that last bend, was about fans damning the guy before he pulls on a jersey, not about whether any of us should be ecstatic about the signing given what sort of signing we would all want to see if there were no limitations. Was it not?

I'm not damning him, but history seems to.
I'm more p155ed off that a "big" club like the Bulls can no longer attract any decent signings.

I guess that comes down to what people mean by "decent", given that the likes of e.g. Peacock (D), Withers, Hape, Henderson... well were they seen as "decent" signings at the time? And "any"? Not one of our signings last year or two has been "decent"?
But, to widen it out to being pîssed off about us not now seeming to be able to retain a squad relative to other clubs which looked a match for every one of theirs, then yes indeed. And get in the line...there are loads of us already in front of you!

I can confirm Kearney is a better player the Ben Jeffries ... at full back
BJ is a far better half back/ stand off than Kearney
if you play Brett at half or 5/8 you will be devastatingly dissapionted...
