| Quote ="af"Link?'" It's on the Super league site right at the bottom on the report of the game being called off. IMO this decision is just another slap in the face for the integrity of Rugby League. No other sport in the world would keep a friendly fixture at the expense of a league game. People wonder why the RFL are a laughing stock and things like this certainly don't help it's image.

Quote Chairman Peter Hood today insisted the Bulls had no qualms with their Super League opener being postponed – and revealed Harlequins’ protective covers had become “cemented” to the frozen Twickenham Stoop pitch.
...
The decision was relayed back to Bradford just before Steve McNamara and his squad were due to depart for an overnight stop in the capital, saving them a large amount of travelling costs.
"... the likelihood is it will be a midweek match sometime later in the season". '"

| Quote ="mystic eddie"RL in London has been given the big push in London for long enough and there is still very little interest in the game. The game v Manly will change nothing at all.
I realise that you are a little hard of understanding on such issues so perhaps you should just continue to live in your little fantasy bubble.'"
You are partially right in your assumption that we have had a load of time to push RL in London and it hasn't worked. The true fact is that "attendance figures" for Super League team, Harlequins/Broncos have pretty much stagnated over the years and are an embaressment to the club, but RL itself is growing from strength to strength in the South East with more youngsters coming through every year. This grass roots growth in the game would not have been possible without the RFL and the Community teams at the club putting in a massive amount of hours. The game is growing at a very fast rate down here...whatever some of our northern bretheren like to believe.
As I have said earlier, I do feel for the Bulls fans who had already planned trips and paid for them, but the fact is, the weather is beyond anyones control. Maybe Harlequins should lay on a coach free of charge to those who have documented proof that they still had to come down or lost their hotel room deposits etc.....

We played our schedueld game on the following tuesday.
Incidently Salford were meant to get the Melbourne Friendly but Oldham refused to move their fixture with Salford to free up the weekend unless Oldham were compensated with a percentage of the gate takings. Needless to say Salford didn't agree and 'Fax got the match.
Seems the RFL have moved the goal posts this time around though and probably gave Bradford little or no choice over when the game was moved to.
Not the end of the World, 10 months of SL to go yet.

nope. I think that SL/RFL Bulls and Quins will wait until it gets a bit warmer before making any call on this. According to the Bulls Chairman, it will be up to the coaches when the game is played, though he hopes that the Bulls are still in the cup and therefore it needs to be played midweek.

Oh yes....
The RFL pushed this fixture from day 1 as a way to try to attract the "ex-pat" community in London to get their lazy butts down to a game. Due to loads of things, including the lack of any proper marketing dept at Quins RL, the nearest walkabout bar (frequented by CURRENT players) had no idea we even existed and as such, the RFL have taken over the marketing for this game. As such, I doubt very much it will be moved/cancelled.
It is indicative of the problem in London that our backers will spend money on anything BUT marketing that the RFL feel the need to take control of this game and as a marketing professional (of sorts) I feely deeply ashamed that the RFL felt the need to do this. Regardless of soundbites from Brian Mac about how much we want this game, I still feel that the RFL have run this from the start and we had very little choice in either the ficture, or it being moved from Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd and the sunsequent fixture congestion for us and the Bulls.

All good stuff . . . . . BUT I wouldn't be too enamored over the RFL taking over.
IMHO they (the RFL marketing people - Bill Hicks had the right view!!) have regularly proved that they shouldn't be used to set any benchmark by which ANY self respecting professional body should seek to be measured against. . . .
What size of crowd is expected? I sincerely [ihope [/iI'm wrong, but I'd expect only to see a K or so added to a good Quins SL game crowd . . .

| Quote ="mat"seriously doubt that will happen as its part of RFL's promotion of rugby in london. basically we've had our pre-season disrupted for the benefit of harlequins and no benefit to ourselves. Now we're going to have the handicap of having to play 3 games in 7 days at some point during the year to add insult to injury. Th only possible benefit to us is that we may have bird and lynch available for the re-arranged fixture.
assuming that the RFL dont cancel the many fixture and put us back on in round 2 then the only fair thing they could do is allow the bulls to nominate when we play the fixture so we get to play a mid week where we dont have tough games either side. You watch them make us play it between leeds and saints or similar though
doesnt help that its the 2nd year running that our pre-season has been disrupted by a WCC that we arent even involved in
'"
Do you really believe that this plan was put together without any consultation with your club? You complain about fixture congestion yet, had the game gone ahead, your team would have had a less congested season than your rivals - something which I'm sure hadn't eluded your management when the plan was hatched.
Having said that, it is absurd that a friendly fixture should have been allowed to cause so much disruption in the first place.

Spot on. I'm sure playing our WEEK 2 Fixture early and having a weekend off in Feb will pay dividends come September/October. You couldn't make this stuff up.

Quote Bradford, meanwhile, have written to the RFL to ask them to determine whether their Super League match against Harlequins could be given priority over the London club's friendly against NRL champions Manly.
The league fixture at The Stoop fell victim to the big freeze last Sunday after being rescheduled from February 22 to allow Manly to play Quins as part of their preparations for the Carnegie World Club Challenge against Leeds on March 1.
"As things stand, the only option is to hold our match in midweek or when both clubs are not involved in the later rounds of the Challenge Cup but it's our aim not to have any free weekends between now and the second round of the play-offs," said Hood.
"We have asked the question of the RFL and are awaiting their response."'"

Quote Esher and London Welsh are locked in a bitter bust-up ahead of Saturday’s scheduled Valentine’s Day derby at Molesey Road.
The National One showdown is in doubt because Welsh have rearranged an EDF Trophy game against Cambridge for the same day.
Esher and Cambridge have lodged official complaints with the RFU after Welsh called off Sunday’s original fifth-round EDF tie with Cambridge at 2pm last Friday – a full two days before the match.
Just two hours later, international referee Wayne Barnes declared the pitch at Old Deer Park playable and the England women’s international against Italy went ahead as scheduled on Saturday.
Esher officials claim Welsh are desperate to have a home game this Saturday to enjoy a cash bonanza at the clubhouse – with Wales taking on England in the televised Six Nations game at 5.30pm.
Esher had refused a request from Welsh to swap their fixtures at the start of the season. '"

Anyway, anything bad that befalls esher is fine with me...that w@nk3r Inverdale is a fan/player and as such, they deserve to be boiled in oil!
