Yes. Surely we should be keeping him, if only as a squad player. We must be something like 4 or 5 players short of a full squad, it would be stupid to let any of the present squad go (with the exception of Diskin), we should be adding to the squad.
We have let too many young homebred players go who come back to bite us. Whats the point in nurturing young players then letting them go, we might as well be a feeder club.

Perhaps if he hadn't suffered three consecutive ruptured cruciate ligaments he might not be gaining confidence and fitness elsewhere. He's only 21 and when we signed him, it was in the face of stiff competition from sveral major clubs. At his age, and given the obvious grit and determination to even be playing at all after those setbacks, I would be very happy to give him time to regain his full fitness, unless the medicos opined that he never will.


As said, he's only 21, and at 5'11" and 14 stone he's hardly a midget either.


He has showed outstanding promise which may or may not be fullfilled given his terrible run of serious injuries but when we signed him at about 17 he was in the very top echelon of signings and to dismiss him as "average" is, with respect, not logical. Whatever his future holds, he's never been that.

3 of our players are in the top 3 for missed tackles. All play in the back-row so we need to find a back-rower that can actually tackle. Donaldson fits that bill. He is 21, he has already showed some decent solid performances. He has had two serous knee injuries which a lot of players wouldn't have come back, is it any wonder he hasn't set the world alight? Jamie Peacock didn't even make his debut for us until he us 22 IIRC.



Go forward isn't our problem, it's defending, particularly in the back row as mentioned above. I don't think his go forward is as bad as some make out, he runs hard on to the ball, has decent foot work for a forward and makes good yards.

It would be ridiculous to get rid of him, who are we going to replace him with? We can't go out and get a Steve Menzies, Cory Paterson type player. We have to nurture our own. I would rather than Donaldson who is only going to improve. I still think we will see him in an England shirt one day.

I think the jury's still out on both Donno and Addy although I think Addy has been a big asset this year. My concern is who a club like ours could sign to replace them, if as a number have suggested (me included), Walker is also struggling. I just can't see the club signing 2 or 3 better quality second rows who are going to be available, or would come to us. Our best hope is to let the second row stay as it is and sign another Sidlow type player or two in the props, and if poss keep Blythe. That looks the best we can hope for.

So we have the majority saying yes give Donsldson another contract,interesting to see some views,from him been a good tackler(don't think any doubt there) his potential not realised yet,probably down to injuries(obviously not his fault),he's a good squad member and we need to keep our young ones and not let other clubs get the benefit as they progress over the years

Its not as though his presumed modest salary will prevent further expensive signings.

The last time I checked, we didn't appear to have bucket loads of Wonga to throw around at big stars, coupled with the fact Donno is a great defender (unlike Whitehead aka Mr Miss Tackle !). Get him signed up, he knows the spirit of the club, is young, will improve.

Well, yet again we're on half the Sky money and, fair enough, we seem to be maximising other income streams but I'd be surprised if that were sufficient to cover the loss of competition money. Let's not forget, we weren't paying full cap when we [idid[/i have the full Sky money under the old regime. Much as I'd probably expect the club to name paying the full cap as an aspiration I doubt that will be matched by reality.

Most fans would like an Abramovich, so it wouldn't matter how much the net loss was each year. As we haven't got one, I'm happy with anything which doesn't lead to a six figure minus at the bottom of the spreadsheet at the year end. And while we are on half Sky money, that is almost impossible to achieve, I think.

What do we think we happen, to each of the other SL clubs, if suddenly THEY each had half THEIR distribution removed for 2 years? We would see a very different SL, and yet we are supposed to be (and are) competing with the rest. How we are doing it I don't know.

Donaldson, if he stays fit, is a keeper. Massively hard worker, great attitude and a machine in defence. On top of that, when he plays with some confidence, he's got a good step and decent pace for a backrower too.

If he can stay injury free for a while, his confidence will return, and he'll be hard to keep out of the side. Even with as many good backrowers as we already have.
