| Utterly ridiculous. As Aaron has said, why an overrated average Aussie HB is preffered to Briggs is totally mind boggling.

Herbert set up two of our tries, and his positional kicks throughout the game were good with some great ones thrown in,
For me briggs hasnt yet stepped up to the plate like Royston has, and personally i think its too early for him

| agreed Pulsations, no point blowing what confidence he has by letting Saints smash him to bits. they can read the stats too. Horses for courses, thats why you have a squad with players that bring different qualities to the game. Theres a few games I would expect him to play, but neither Herbert nor Briggs will play all matches even if injury free.

| To be honest, I can't see why people are getting quite so wound up over this. Both fairly average halfbacks IMO who have different strengths and weaknesses. In the long term, we need to be looking at better if we're serious about aiming for top 4 finishes.
Potter will have devised a gameplan and will pick the players he believes are suited to that plan.

| i must have missed the games where briggs became a dead cert and i think potter is doing is job in protecting him defensively. If briggs plays and has another defensive shocker he would have to be dropped again and this would be even more damaging to his confidence.
I believe that briggs is a long term option, but he has missed the MOST important aspect for any young, slight player making the step up- PRE SEASON. if we come out of this year with briggs bigger and knowing the plays with some game experience, it sets us up well with a young half back who could have a bright future. If we throw him to the wolves, we could jeopordise this future.
One final note, im pretty sure lomax and gaskill were drip fed initially until they proved they had the all round game to handle the step up and this was as a result of injuries.

theres a lot of sense in that post. I'd prefer to play briggs but can see why potter might opt for herbert for this game. lets not forget herbert's only had one game with jeffries. its a bit harsh to dismiss partnership on back of one game. think we'll see both herbert and briggs used in remainder of season depending on strengths of the opposition.

| I think the stranger decision was leaving Briggs out against Quins. He had had a couple of good games prior to this, looked to be developing a relationship with BJ and was due to play against possibly the weakest team in the league and still couldnt retain his place

| That said, there would have been no point playing Herbert this week had he not had a run out last week. Suspect choices last week may have been made with an eye on this week.

| What the hell is Potter watching?! Against Wigan in the cup Briggs gave a good account of himself and showed up well again alongside Jeffries in the Salford game...He is then dropped for Herbert who has yet another shocker at Quins!..Let's hope Kearney gets the nod at SO..

I wouldn't be shocked at that. I don't know why but with Addy not selected I have the feeling that Potter might spring a surprise with Herbert at loose, particularly, if as might be likely given the absence of Hargreaves, we might be expecting Langers, along with the other forwards, to cover the lack of a prop.
It will be interesting if that's how it pans out.

Kyle Briggs conspicuous by his absence tonight, expected to sign for Quins on loan this week.

| I do wonder if people forget that there is only 10 months age difference between Herbert and Briggs.
People refer to Briggs as though he is a youngster.

| Good point.
However, he is non-quota and appears to have at least as much potential as Herbert (assuming he can tighten his defence)

Hmm. Starting to agree with statuses like these. For me, Briggs offers much more than Sherbert.

Whilst that is perfectly true I think we have to make allowances for someone coming from a lower (semi pro) division. He was also, in the general scheme of things, a late singing who missed the whole of our (full time) pre season preparatory work which put him at another disadvantage.
If this story is true it might be the best thing that could happen for him, and for my two pennorth he has a lot of good things in his game, so let's hope it's the making of him.

I believe he also began life at Leeds before being released, not unheard of for a club to make a mistake letting a good young un go though.

I hope he can improve the weak aspects in his game and prove me wrong. I just haven't seen anything from him that leads me to believe he is one for the future like some are suggesting. He could well develop into a solid SL player but that's about all IMO. I have heard a few whispers of some attitude issues but whether there is any truth there I cannot be sure. There has to be some valid reasons why Potter is not picking him. We aren't exactly blessed in the halfbacks to be letting players go out on loan.
