| Worrincey - worst ever signing !
Sheriffe - awful defender
Reardon - too lazy
Sykes - absolute waste of time
Sculpthorpe - probably not likely to see him ever in a bulls shirt
Nero - goes missing most of the time
The rest of them need to book up there ideas instead of playing like a bunch of lost sheep.

| I get the impression that we will see a number of players (and Worrincy...) moving on. Shall I say I'm pretty sure the club are well aware of the weakness in the areas that most of the fans (ignoring the odd obsessed muppet) can so clearly see, and know at least as well as we do that some of the guys are either not up to the job or are not up to the effort required.
The point about playing like a bunch of lost sheep - don't forget that, continuing the analogy, you marshal and run sheep with a pair of sheepdogs...and we are a bit light in that department to put it mildly!

| Surprised to hear that there might be quite an overhaul of playing staff. I expected no more than 3-4 new signings, mainly due to the fact that we wouldn't have much space on the quota. Wonder perhaps if we will have some scope to recruit from overseas now?
I think most fans would like to kick off next years recruitment with Langley re-signing. I just hope we haven't been outbid for his services.

| The author of this thread either knows nothing about rugby league or has not been to a game this season. Platt is probably one of the best centres in super league this season!

| Not sure about "quite an overhaul"? Did get the vibes though that the club appreciate areas we are weak in, and that steps will be taken to try and address those areas - as you would hope. Nothing specific, nor would you expect anything until it happens, so I'd not read anything into it other than to take comfort that the club does see what the fans see - and are certainly not burying heads in sand like some would seem to want to believe. I'd expect this to be a message they seek to get out at the forum
I for one hope that we sign another halfback, and I guess you'd have to assume some upgrading of some of the younger players' contracts which would limit a bit the scope for new signings? I'm sure most of us are expecting/hoping a number of contracts not to be renewed, but you'd assume the players would be told first!

| Whoever we bring in we need some leaders. This team is weak on leadership and oh, a goal kicker too.
Worrincy, Scully would be gone for mine.

| I've lost patience with Worrincy. Nero looks to me like a man who knows he wont be here next season , although I have no info one way or the other. Reardon has disappointed me - I had him down as a very astute signing, but for whatever reason I've been proved wrong there so far. Rikki I like but I'm afraid would swap him in a better candidate appeared. Halley tries and can be quite good, but you keep thinking he's not big enough ad he has a few 'mares too.
Platt I want to keep - has been our best 3/4 this year and puts in a lot of effort. That pass between his legs last week, and stretching out for his try today, those sort of things make a difference IMO. Sykes keep for all round utility and home-grown value.
I've not written Scully off. Whether he gets a chance to play again, let alone show what he can do, is very much in the lap of the Gods I guess.
Koppy has improved with more game time. I'd keep him if practicable.

I'd agree with pretty much all that, apart from that if I was in charge, I would offload Sculthorpe at the earliest opportunity now.

"The club appreciate areas we are weak in". Did someone up high really say this without blushing to their core?
I'm not arguing the respective merits of certain players, many of whom have been predictably poor but I think the management and composition of the squad has been lamentable.
Kearney, Reardon and Sculthorpe have some of the worst injury records in world RL. Guess what? We sign them.
The regime that placed so much emphasis on youth development have conjured a situation where when the first choice scrum half is injured we have played a significant part of the season with a 19 yr old second rower at scrum half alongside a 36 yr old second rower or Paul Sykes (no description necessary).
My argument is that damning judgements of the likes of Kopzcak and Crossley is completely unreasonable in the context of the utter fiasco that has masqueraded for a coaching and recruitment regime in recent seasons.

No they did not. They were my words, chosen in the interests of diplomacy. I'm not going to splash a transcript of a conversation across internet message boards.

| Outs for me:
Worrincy
Nero (confirmed)
Sheriffe
Hall (linked with Cas)
Halley or Reardon, can't make my mind up but can't understand why Reardon has not been used at full-back when this is clearly his best position.
Menzies (ideally could be kept on for another season but he is quota) sos Beaver..

| These Hall to Cas rumours just won't go away, but why the hell would Cas buy out his contract (he still has 2 years remaining) when there are plenty of other second rowers kicking around that they can get for no transfer fee?
It makes no sense to me, especially given the fact that he's been far from impressive this season...

Do you think the club would ask for a transfer fee?
If I were coach, I think I'd be happy to release him early to get him off the wage bill.

Worrincey. No comment should become a florist, if he gets another year ill be gutted

| If Hall goes, then someone must know he has the potential to get back to form. I never understand why people assume that
(a) Player X is irredeemably useless, but
(b) the coach and board of another SL club somehow don't realise it.
Hall in fact owes us a bloody good year. Let's not forget this was the guy who was pushing the legendary Menzies out of a GF winning team in the very recent past and finished his career in the NRL with a GF ring. Yes he has been a big disappointment but there may be reasons for that, that we don't know about.
Or else let's drop a similar bollock as I warned about with the superb Glenn Morrison, who's been tearing it up all season. How we could have done with him this year. You don't sign current NRL GF champions and then give up on them. I'd suggest Potter would very much like a crack at working with the likes of Hall.

| Given the existence of [url=http://viewtopic.php?f=19&t=434050this thread[/url, there's no excuse for not knowing who is contracted or not contracted. With players who are still contracted (including Halley, Platt and Hall of those mentioned on this thread), there may be things the club can do to 'help them find another club', but if the player wants to stay, there's not a lot the club can do. With Sculthorpe (also contracted, of course), the situation may be slightly different, depending on how long he takes to get back to training (again), and whether he himself thinks he ought to start listening to what his body is telling him.

| Listing players for a clear out is tricky without knowing whos available to replace. Take Platt, he has been very good this year, our best , but if two world class were available I'd release him to make room. However, given that we really don't know the possible or probably available. These are the players I think we need to retain, any others not on list either I wouldn't miss, think we can replace internally, or some I would pay the taxi fare myself. This is also ignoring the OOC situation and is just my view on the players from what they've put in (or not) this year.
Must keep and built around;
Lynch, Scruton, Langley, Donaldson, Whitehead, L'strange, Kearney, Finigan, Addy, Wardle, Olibsion.
Keep and hope to develop/improve under new regime, but if better options are available then so be it;
Platt, Kopczak, Crossley, Halley, Sheriffe, Godwin, Crookes, Reardon.
Can go tomorrow for me;
Hall, Worrincy, Sculthorpe, Sykes.
Orford and Menzies are different, If Orford wants to stay and is fit then place him in build around category. If he wants to go back home let him go tomorrow. Menzies, I think he'll choose to leave rather than go again after whats happened this year. And if we have a small and diminishing cap available he might not be the best use of it next year anyway. Before anyone shouts at me, yes he is our bext player by a distance and a legend, but, he is not getting any younger and we need an overhaul and if we have to use his cap money to bring in 2 or 3 good players then I would. (but if Hall and Orford go I'd retain definately as we'd already have cap and quota spots opened up) If we can bring in players anyway and still offer Menzies a deal then keep also as there is no better example to have in the squad for the kids we're bringing through.

I agree with that summing up.
Platt, Sykes and Koppy all appear to give 100% but lack a touch of quality.
Reardon is either unfit or can't be 4rsed
Worrincy is a liability, gone backwards since he signed

Platt's done well in his first full year at centre and finding 2 players better than him, that we could fit in quota, is unlikely.
Kopczak's improved as he's got more game time so no I've problem keeping him assuming he keeps getting better.
Keeping Menzies to me is a no brainer if he thinks he can go another year, which his interview in the program says yes.
Hall has been underwhelming but he's another 2 years to show he's a better player.
Langley must be kept and his early season form (pre injury) was the best he's played for a while.
Sculthorpe doesn't look like he's going to be fit enough again so try and negotiate a release.
Reardon was a fitness gamble that didn't work.
Worrincy has to go.
Nero has gone but I'd have not offered another contract anyway as he's not consistent.
