| OK,
I am a Bulls fan and a City season ticket holder. there are plenty of people like me, and also many who are one or the other and dont understand the other code.
As a Bulls fan living in Wibsey, I like Odsal being close, and for its historical links to the club. However, Northern existed away from ODsal originally and may have to again.
Valley Parade has been the only home of Bradford City, and the fact that 56 fans died there 24 years ago means that it is much more than an address or a stadium; it is a living memorial to those who died on 11/05/85.
taking the emotion out of it Valley Parade may not in its current state, enable us to get a SL franchise in 2012 if we go there. the pitch is 11 metres too short! nor is it owned by Bradford City so Mark LAwn and Julian Rhodes have little or no say in who Gordon Gibb alows to cohabit there with City.
odsal as it is now, is not an option for City. Even on a wave of emotion post the fire, crowds were down to 6000 or there abouts in the 18 months that they played at Odsal.
neither club at the moment has a stadium or training facilities that are of the standard required for elite sport. Bradford is the 9th biggest council district in the country and that simply is not good enough. If a sharing plan is the only way for both clubs to grow and flourish then so be it. whether it is at the OSV (that does not yet exist) or VP then so be it!
Lawn, Rhodes and Hood should meet to discuss the options, they would be doing their clubs and the city a disservice if they didnt.
Much of the bile that is trotted out by City fans, is by those living in the Aire Valley. the snobs from North of the City who wont even put the dreaded word Bradford in their address, and only are linked by a BD postcode!!! So good people, of Bingley, Baildon, Steeton, Silsden etc... remember that you are part of Bradford whether you like it or not! These are the people who gladly are on the facebook "Leeds" network and only venture into Bradford on match days!
end of rant!!!

| As a Bulls fan I think the Bulls and City should buy back Valley Parade, 50% Bulls, 50% City. I just think OSV will not happen & as neither the Bulls & City cannot afford to keep going alone, it just looks like the obvious choice. Ideally I would like the Bulls & City to have there own grounds, in reality it will not happen. I think the Bulls should only go to Valley Parade if they will gain some power in running/owning the ground, i.e. to prevent a Wigan situation. BTW, I am a new member, so hi everyone, Matt.

Welcome aboard, nice pic of a great night on the avatar!
I understand the sentiment about a groundshare, but I think OSV is probably more likely than the Bulls and City buying VP. Sharing any ground makes lots of economic sense for two cash poor clubs, but unfortunatly thats not the only criteria we're faced with solving.
VP is more than just a ground to lot of people so City moving out is tough. The VP pitch I don't believe is up to superleague standard, its just too small, so that alone IMO makes it a not prefered option for the Bulls long term. Odsal in its current state is no good for either clubs, so the OSV is the only realistic option on the horizon for a groundshare IMHO, but even if the OSV comes off I doubt City would go for it unless they really have no other choice.
We could always just build on a new site with an imaginary new wealthy backer, anyone know of any other big holes in the ground going begging near the city ??

| 97% of people surveyed at games at VP did not want the Bulls to remain there. More than half said they would go to no games or to fewer games if the move were made permanent.
A permanent move to VP would be a disaster for the Bulls.
For one stadium for everyone there is far more potential at Odsal than at VP which has no room for expansion and too little parking even for the small crowds there will be.

I do understand what you are saying about Valley Parade, but it makes far more sense to develop Odsal into a really great stadium and share between both of the cities proffessional sporting teams.
There could always be a memorial built to the tragedy that occurred up at Valley Parade, to be erected on the site once it is developed.

| im a season ticket holder at city and the bulls and i would prefer the bulls to move to VP. it would cost the council a lot less money to buy back VP from gorden gibb then it would to completly redevelop odsal.
i also lost a good friend on the 11th of may 1985 and a lot of people lost family members so to see VP demolished and turned into flats or somthing would be a disgrace in my opinion and somebody earlier in the thread said theres no room to expand VP can you really see either the bulls or city ever needing more than 25,000 capacity?

No I can't I'd agree with that, and VP's 25,000 capacity is more than the proposed capacity for the OSV I believe.

Its not that kind of expansion
if the counsil Bought VP and the bulls moved in there what would they have , 1 slightly run down stadia with very little else
if they go down the OSV route they end up with 1 new stadia and all-weather floodlit pitches for cricket and soccer, an athletics track, tennis courts and an Olympic-scale swimming venue - together with a range of other health, sports and leisure facilities including a 3,500 person indoor arena, and plenty of parking.
Thats the expansion, not the number of people you can get in. to turn VP in the Bradford's sporting centre would mean knocking down alot houses and a virtually impossible job of getting fast road connections.

| Whilst I can appreciate City fans being sceptical of the OSV ever happening, I cannot really understand why some appear so against it. Bradford has very little going for it right now, but OSV would give something for all Bradfordians to be proud of. I'd love to see the two clubs join forces and grow stronger together in a stadium that delivered superb facilities. I'd be absolutely in favour of branding the OSV 50/50 because this Stadium should be something for the whole City.
An OSV would be the new home of Sport in Bradford, not just the Bulls. I just pray the Council and all parties involved can actually make it happen in these difficult times.

| I don't think VP is a viable option for the Bulls, that said I wouldn't be hugely unhappy if we ended up there.
The SV makes the most sense for all parties concerned, economically and socially speaking.
Many fans (from both clubs) will probably say they're against a move, in reality though, how many will actually STOP going? A small percentage in the medium to long term I would estimate.
At the end of the day, we all want to see our clubs performing to the highest level, I don't think people would mind where that is.
A superleague winning side at VP v's a NL2 side at Odsal? I know where I'd rather be.
A big stumbling block is the emotional tie to VP for City fans, the few I know haven't got an issue with moving, but I accept there will be some with strong feelings attached to VP.
I think as suggested a memorial, naming of a stand, the indoor arena, or whatever would be a good starting point.

| Looking at OSV, I just think it won't happen. Bradford Council in my opinion never have and never will be bothered about the Bulls or City. How the OSV has slowly progressed so far does not feel me with much confidence. In Bradford if something is not planned & built straight away it won't happen, e.g. Broadway, Previous Odsal Schemes, etc. Like many other Bulls' fans it really annoys me with the excellent location Odsal has it just seems destine to be never be developed. Unless a massive injection of cash is given to the Bulls, VP is the only option. I'd rather see the Bulls go to VP on our terms rather than in few years be forced down to VP when OSV has failed and the Bulls cannot afford Odsal, which knowing the Bulls luck it will & see the Bulls under the thumb of City which I don't want to happen, e.g. Wigan. Bulls need a modern stadium now not 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10+ years time. Its embarrassing when 'lower' clubs like Doncaster, Leigh, to name a few have new stadiums now. Like 'Wigan Bull' stated do we have top flight rugby at VP or play lower level rugby at a run down Odsal because its 'where the Bulls should be' which would echoe from a lot of older Bulls/Northern fans.

Your post shows that you need to do some mugging up on the OSV. Peter Hood is extremely confident that it will happen, and the fact is that it is NOT Bradford Council's project, nor the Bulls'.
There's infinitely more chance of OSV happening than a "massive injection of cash being given to the Bulls", that is for sure.

| It does seem that the OSV has more chance than previous projects and while it has the backing of the major players and the club it should be supported by the supporters.
Going to VP isn't something we should consider while the OSV is on the table.

| I've nothing against OSV just cannot see it happening, I think its because we've been let down so many times, not just the Bulls but Bradford in general it just leads me thinking 'here we go again'. From my first post ideally I would like City & the Bulls to have there own grounds but just cannot see it happening thats all. From Bulls Website: "The partners in the scheme are Bradford College, the University of Bradford, Sport England, Bradford Bulls, the Primary Care Trust, Bradford Council and Yorkshire Forward." I stand corrected Aardvark but I still don't think it will happen because I am expecting dates, with the 3 year licences in play the Bulls or any other club cannot depend on 'mays, ifs & possibilies'. I think the RFL will look at undeveloped grounds in a much harsher light the next time especially with promises like Wakefield been broken already much to the annoyance of Widnes' fans.

Just because the government, in their wisdom, decided to create a Bradford Met District doesn't mean that people are now Bradfordians, because they aren't.
In fact if they weren't part of thos faux district we might actually get more things done in Bradford itself, the leaders of our council all live out in Haworth, Ilkley etc and don't actually seem to be in touch with the reality of life in then city.

He does? or maybe it's you who has this need.
Extract from a February 2009 update:
Quote A specialist team has been appointed to the Odsal Sports Village as the scheme takes another step forward.
Bradford Council selected EC Harris following a rigorous tender process to carry out feasibility studies to deliver the Odsal Sports Village.
EC Harris, in conjunction with their partners, WSP, DLA Architecture and Strategic Leisure, have a wealth of sports, leisure and stadia expertise with previous projects including the MEN Arena in Manchester, the English Institute of Sports Centres of Excellence at Loughborough University, Leigh Sports Village and the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.
Leader of Bradford Council and chairman of the Odsal Sports Village Steering Group, Coun Kris Hopkins, said: "Things are progressing on the Odsal Sporting Village and we are looking forward to seeing the plans EC Harris provides us with.
"We have received overwhelming support from a large number of partners who all share our vision to provide a world-class facility in Bradford that can be enjoyed by everyone in the district and we are determined to deliver it."
[url=http://www.bradford.gov.uk/information_and_communication/public_relations/news_releases/regeneration/specialists-appointed-to-odsal-sports-village.htmLink[/url
'"
Quote The announcement follows recent support for the scheme from a wide-range of partners including the Bradford Bulls, Bradford College, The University of Bradford, Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust, Yorkshire Forward, Sport England and a variety of National Governing Bodies.'"
It may be cool to be seen as cynical, but do you seriously believe that the whole lot of all these major bodies are all entirely wasting their time, and money, for nothing?
