| Punjab was nothing short of excellent last night. Certainly one of the very best curry's have had in a long time. Had the chicken tikka masala (Indian Style) which is like a balti, as opposed to the British version that they also do, which is more like a korma.

| Bradford has won the Curry Capital of Britain!
Deservedly so, IMHO, but The restaurants representing Bradford in the competition were "Shimla Spice in Keighley, Aagrah Shipley, Prashad in Horton Grange Road, Bradford, and Kipling's Restaurant in Greengates."
Haven't been to any of those recently, so I think we should send scouts to sample and report.
Well done to all!

I've been to the Kiplings in Sowerby Bridge and it's very good. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu.

| There is a Kiplings in Ilkley, on the station, which is good but not brilliant. Hardly a typical Bradford curry experience though.

Been to the first three in the list in the past 6 months or so. They're all decent enough in their own way, but are quite different. The first one is a large ish restaurant with a large menu, no license but cutlery and fancy decor. It's fair enough and has a branch in Shipley now too, prob to compete with the Aagrah. Aagrah Shipley is a bigger place, lacks a bit in the way of friendly service. Prashad is different entirely, Indian and Veggie, much smaller, friendlier.
One worth a visit is Shama in Bingley. Quality food, unpretentious, friendly service, reasonable prices.

| Went to Paprika in Clayton Heights the other week, still very new and building custom. The "specials" are slightly different to your average restaurant, but pretty good none the less. Main course had a little too much ginger in it, even for me. Curries appear to be of the dryer type and Bangladesh style.
Worth a visit, and I'll be going again to find a favorite on the menu.

The 1875 restaurant on Menston station has re-opened after the chefs have been away in India over summer. It is very different to most Bradford curry houses in that it is more authentic Indian than standard Bangladeshi or Mirpur. Similar to Prashad but they do meat as well. I've only had a take away so far which was excellent if pricey, particulalry the accompaniments. I had a long chat with the owner while I waited, they are trying some really innovative events.

Been on that site. Menston Station looks just like the Taj Mahal, but they seriously need to erect some buffers at the end of that track.

They've invested heavily in the refurbishment as you can see. The biggest danger is all the buggers on the train roof, quite dodgy when there is overhead power.

What would a nouveau-Olicanan know about trains? Surely one is chauffeured everywhere in the Bentley?

| Anyone tried the re-furbed Sheesh Mahal on Westgate yet? It looks brilliant but when I went down one Saturday tea-time before work they weren't quite open so had to go to the Punjab instead due to time constraints. It was an excellent second choice. The best 'soft' shamis around and I can heartily recommend the Meat Chana.

| If anyone reads Tyke Taverner (CAMRA) the Bradford branch do an annual tour of the regions pubs with afficionados from this country & beyond. SOme bloke from down south writes an amusing review of the 5 days or so. Every year the last sentence of each day's report is always "Stopped off in the Sheesh". I know it's a favourite of FA.

| Prashad fantastic as ever, slightly more expensive & crockery a bit posher. £350 for 21 of us, only 2 or 3 had puddings. Different tastes & textures to what you generally get elsewhere. Still extremely friendly, the older of the female chefs came out & sat & chatted with us for about half hour which was a nice touch.

| Near the uni. Go up Gt Horton Road from there, turn right at the first crossroads. It's on the right hand side down there somewhere.

If your'e coming down from Gt Horton, turn right just before the zebra crossing and it's on the corner. Reception area/take away pick up on one side, restaurant on the other. Parking can be a bit of a 'mare if busy

| I'm usually on my bike so I cycle up Longside Lane, off Thornton Road, just keep going right to the end when it meets Horton Grange Road. By this time Longside Lane has become Woodhead Road. You can no longer drive all the way down Longside Lane as it is part of the university campus for part of its length, but you are ok on foot or bike.

| I am coming to Bradford on Saturday on my holidays . We're staying in the holiday inn express at the leisure exchange. I have not been through all the pages on the thread, as I would imagine the hotel wasn't built when it started.
We could do with a bit of scran before the game and was wondering if there were any good buffet style curry houses in the area of the hotel that would be serving at around half 3 / 4.
Any suggestions?
We are then having a night on the tiles in Bradford for the first time! Wish us luck!

The Fighting Cock on Preston street is a must as is the Corn Dolly.
Both serve the finest real ale to found in Bradford.

I will certainly be checking those out then. Thanks for the recommendation.
